Danner has TWO lines of boots. The USA made and the Imports. They are certainly made to a different standard. The Danner Acadia's are made in the USA and are a fantastic boot. Local State Police and Marine Corp Officers are often seen in Danner Acadia's in my neck of the woods. I loved mine but, I did destroy them.
Next, I tried the Danner Quarry 2.0 and a GTX day hiker. Both Import boots from Danner. The Quarry's fell apart at the seams and lost their water-proof ability in short order. The GTX just fit me sloppy once they packed out.
To the original poster: Danner Acadia. There used to be an insulated and a non-insulated version. Great boot.
I'm in need of two new pairs of boots. A day hiker and a work boot.
I recently tried on a pair of the Asolo Fugitive GTX at REI. I did not care for how the tongue of the boot packed in around my low volume foot. The search for a day hiker continues...
Keep the replies coming!! So far: White's boots have sparked an interest for work boots.
The Lowas came in and so far they are honestly the most comfortable boot I've worn to this point.. Even more comfortable than the Under Armors which I didn't think was possible. They weigh close to the same, look better, seem to be better quality and they're water proof.. I can't speak as to how they will hold up just yet. But the initial impression is that I'm impressed with the Lowas
Footwear are an expendable item. For uniform police work I go through 1 pair every summer and get 2-3 winters out of a pair. I would never expect a pair to last a whole year without needing replacement (danner Acadia maybe, but they would need resoled).
For summer, I like the Solomon XAs in black. I never have settled on a winter pair that I like enough to buy twice.
I had a pair I lowa zephyr for swat that I am just now replacing with Salomon conquests. I liked the zephyrs, but I got a huge discount on the Salomons through promotive.
Definitely check out Zamberland before you make a decision. I got a pair for hiking in the Telluride (CO) mountains. I wore them in deep snow, half frozen rivers and then brought them back to Arizona just north of scottsdale. I have been using them to hike, hunt, and do shooting drills. It has surprised me so far how dry my feet remain with the Gortex. I haven't worn them in above 80 deg weather yet but its about time for that.
