This heavy old Bogen 3021 with 3047 head needs to be replaced. Specifically the receiver of the head is worn out.
I like the way this head works but it is a monster. So is my spotter.
I do not use a tripod for anything but the spotter. I do not carry any extra gear when shooting a match.
What should I be looking at for a tripod?

If you're using it as a spotter at matches, you'll want something that is stable and has very little to no vibration, so you have a clear sight picture through your scope. Weight is subjective, but I would think you'd want to carry as little weight as possible, which unfortunately somewhat works against the other two criteria.

After owning a carbon fiber tripod with RRS and Manfrotto heads $$$$$; I talked to the former Marine who came out with the well received “Hog Saddle” and he took the time to explain the Corp shooting he did and how he set up. He advised not to waste money on high dollar when not needed. I was shocked when I bought his $150.00 tripod with ball and Hog Saddle and now I leave the carbon fiber high dollar stuff at home.....his tripod weighs a little more but actually works much better for me and honestly I am impressed. I love it when one thing like this happens every so often... google “Hog Saddle”. Does Shadow Tech sound right? Anyhow, let us know what you end up doing...

I just got a Crux carbon tripod. I was looking between a RRS and the CRUX and I went that direction. Really happy with it and nice and light for transport. Very sturdy. Check the, out

Cruxord. Can not say enough good things about them! I tried them two weeks ago for the first time at a class and they are amazing. Most solid platform on three legs. That being said, they are expensive.

I used a Cruxord at a match last year and was sold. Saved all year and got one last month. I’ve used a lot different tripods. Crux is worth every penny.
