Hunting & Fishing Need a wind proof balaclava for ATV riding

cyclone buff - i'm using it alot for the ski patrols with a motor sledge. really good for throat and lower face area. good experience with it down to -20 degC ( -4 F). head itself is separately protected by hat/helmet or such

Not an ATV but for snow machines, we duct tape a seal around the neck and face shield of helmets to keep the wind out and wear a average mid wgt clava. I have run 60mph at -30 and below and keep my face and head warm.

Was elk hunting in the Big Horn Mountains in an area called Freeze Out Point (well named). It was cold, and windy on my ATV

This is how I looked. Picture doesn't show cold hands in my mittens.

I ran across two more Hunters on ATVs. They didn't have any face mast. The wore gloves not mittens, and a lighter coat then I was wearing. Both seemed a lot warmer then I was. They like me were riding Polaris'. The difference? Windshields.

I got home, unpacked my gear, and went to town to buy a windshield for my Polaris Sportsman.

It works, it makes winter travel on an ATV a pleasure. Now, regardless how cold it is (its -15 in NE Wyoming as I type this) I use my ATV to pick up the mail, (my mail box is on the highway a mile from the house) I use my ATV to feed and tend my horses instead of a truck. I use my ATV to plow snow instead of my open tractor.

Find a cold day, barrow an ATV with a windshield and give it a try. You'll head to town and come back with a windshield. The one that fits my Sportsman snaps on and off in seconds.

I don't even carry my face mast and goggles on my ATV any more.
Windshields make a world of difference on ATVs. Besides protecting the face and chest area, most protect the hands. This makes winter ATV travel a lot different

Thanks for the tips, and tricks guys. Definitely gonna look in to all of them. KraigWY, we've got a windshield on a Bobcat SxS, and it does make a difference, it's only 16 degrees here right now, down right tropical compared to WY!
