hey everyone, i had orginally planned on buying a remmy 700 5r .308 and replacing a few things and some minor gunsmith stuff.. nothing major.. but i wanna try to keep it on a budget. i can get the sps tac for $550 new and thats half the price of a 5r. That would allow 500 for new stock/bedding/trigger..i would still do more work but it would be built exactly how i want. i know the 5r is a pretty good rifle, but can i expect similiar results with the sps? i handload, and wouldnt be shooting out past 800 yards, realistically 600 max. is the 5r worth the extra $? thanks

The 5r IS worth every bit the extra money. Put a good moa base on it. A good scope and make some ammo with 44.5 grains of varget, a 175 smk and fed 210m primers in almost anybody's case and you're good to go

You could always sell the HS precision stock off of the 5R if you wanted a different stock. They seem to sell for $200 or so in the classifieds.

Yes the 5R is worth the extra cash over the SPS. You can beat you will have one heck of a shooter in the 5r and they really hold their value.

If you have the cash for the 5r and are not going to be in a bind for glass, base, rings, get the 5r. If you need the spare cash from savings on SPS for better glass, get the better glass now.
