Gunsmithing Need answer on switching AI barrels

Just want to double check. I want to switch my short action AI AE mkiii barrel in 7.62 with an AI AT/AX in 6.5 creedmoor. Other than checking headspace, this should simply be a direct swap, am I correct. The .308 magazine should feed the 6.5 and the bolt face should be compatible?

IIRC, the AE mkIII was the last of the AE models and used the action that became the AT.
If your rifle uses the AW style ten-round stagger-feed magazine then I think you should be able to make the swap.
If your AE is the older rounded action likely not.

In general, the AE series can use AX/AT small tenon barrels, but the AX/AT cannot use AE barrels. It SHOULD fit fine, but you’d be smart to check headspace after threading it on.
