I think I am in need of a good chronograph. I currently have to F-1 model of the Shooting Chrony brand---it is their $75 entry level one. I have never been confident in its accuracy and I have grown less so.

So, can anyone recomend a good, accurate chrono? I do not need it to print out, compute SD or ES or anything like that. I just want one that I can have complete confidence in regardless of the amount of sunlight ect......

thanks

Re: need chronograph

I have both the CED and the Oehler... The Oehler in my opinion is the best you can buy, and the most accurate... And actually I think you do want SD and ES.. How else will you know if your ammo is the best it can be...

I can tell you that my CED is 50fps off.... That does not make it affordable in my book...

How did you make that determination?

Re: need chronograph

You'll need to use the diffuser as directed no matter which chrony you decide on. If I remember right you have to take it off when there are clouds overhead or your get an error.

I haven't had any trouble with my ProChorno (on sale at Midway), the brains are in the housing with the sensor which is a drag for some people, but if you are shooting your chrono with it 10 feet from your muzzle you shouldn't be allowed to handle a weapon anyhow.

Take my input with a grain of salt, I just do this as a hobby, some on here have this as there job.

I made the determination by shooting my rifle at distance, using jbm with the appropriate weather and data needed, moved the velocity around till it matched...Then I simply bought a Oehler and it matches the velocity needed...

Trust me when I say my CED is off by 50fps

Re: need chronograph

For as little as most use a chrony I'd just borrow one. $500.00 is a new barrel, stock, really hot escort, ahhh well at least a good looking one.

I have always had problems getting the JBM is do more than ballpark, and five different chronies seem to always give seven different readings for the same load being tested.

Re: need chronograph

Do not buy a ProChorno, My friend had one and after shooting it right in the middle of the readout screen with a 300 win mag it quit working!

In all seriousness I have used the Pro chrono quite a bit and really like it. It is simple and intuitive to use.(just check your scope setting before shooting!!!
