Roundup, MT
Ok so I picked up a bunch of brass at the range that was once fired. AndI have some win, LC, FC from some M118 rounds I bought, but I havent seen these before.. I assume they are Fedral
brass but are these what the Fedral gold match cases look like? Do they say match on the brass for those kinds of FC? or did I just get some regular FC brass? any help is appreciated- here is a pic. Oh and I reloaded them already to see if they make a difference in my AR10-
thanks

Those are standard Federal cases. They will reload fine but I have had issues with Federal brass being soft and try not to use it. They work but they do not last as long as other better brands.
I am cheep and I really like Lake City and Winchester brass and yes I will use Federal cases from time to time too, just not for anything serious.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with federal brass. I have been using it for years with great results out of bolt guns and my M1A. Just keep an eye out for signs of fatigue.

I've never seen federal brass with any other headstamp than "FC".....Even the gold metal match. I've had perfectly good success with federal brass. Lapua is nice but I wouldnt drop the coin on it for a gas gun.

I can not tell the difference between Federal Gold Medal Match and regular Federal brass. All looks the same to me. I've reloaded it and had no problems with it before. Just don't push your loads too hot.

Re: Need Headstamp help Please in 308 Dept?

Winchester brass is generally accepted as having a long life and high internal volume. Lapua is generally accepted as being the most consistent or accurate but with slightly lower volume than Win. LC and Federal are fine too.

If I were buying new brass, I would buy WIN. Price and quality are both good. But there's nothing wrong with the other brands listed here.

I had some problems with FC brass in a POF .308 gun (distorted heads after firing - massive extractor marks - almost like it was going to pull the head off the case), but that thing was over-gassed, so I blame the gun.
