Need help choosing muzzle break

Check out their TACTICAL Muzzle Brake. 5/8x24AR Threads makes it great to remove for a can too.
Very effective not only by reducing recoil, but by helping retain sight picture depending on shooting position. They are loud, but don't make a giant dust cloud like the Vias does.

The Badger Thruster Brake has also been a great one along with an Eley that I've got on a Benchmark built .308

What are you going to be using the rifle for? Hunting or range time? If just for hunting I would just leave it as is, they don't kick that bad. Now if you plan on putting hundreds of rounds down range at one time then go with a brake.

Re: Need help choosing muzzle break

We just tried out two different ones at the range while getting sight settings on our long range rifle. At the 650 yard station which had a nice background and was far enough away for us to see any differences the brakes might have we decided to swap them. We had been getting nice centered hits with a Ross brake, we switched over to the Harrell brake and still got nice centered hits with no variation in elevation or windage. Both allowed us to see our hits from 234 thru 1000 yards and didn't have any affect on the accuracy although we did have to get new zeros with the brakes over the sighting in session without one on the gun. It wasn't a lot but enough they needed a slight tweaking to be centered up at all distances.

There are many other brands but these are two we did get a chance to test pretty good at all distances. The Harrell brake is a tiny bit quieter but does have holes all the way around which if you shoot prone might toss some stuff up when you shoot. It also seems to have a tiny bit more rearward push than the Ross but is so slight it isn't really a factor to worry about. Neither is very expensive and both work great so far.

Re: Need help choosing muzzle break

I don't plan to hunt with this gun, strictly range. I'm new to the sport and to be honest everything I know about the different guns I have learned from the knowledge on this forum. Was never a bolt guy before and now have 2 700's. Also, I have not fired a 300 WM before, just assuming it kicks a bit harder than my 30 06. Thank you all for your replies, I will look into each one. Please keep em coming.

7-08. Should be a bb gun to shoot! I'll never have another rifle without one. Very effective recoil reduction and quieter than most.

Re: Need help choosing muzzle break

I have a number of Harrell's brakes that work very well and they are one of the cheapest out there. The only downside is the thread pitch that Lynwood uses is not standard. Using his brake doesn't allow transition to a suppressor easily in the future. My latest brake is the Little Bastard from APA, it is my new favorite. It is one of the most efficient brakes I have used. I believe my 300 WM has less recoil than my 308 TRG.

He sells 1/2-28 and 5/8-24 threaded brakes in both the radial and tactical styles. If you don't specify when you order he'll send whatever is handy.

Thanks, guess it has been over a year since I have ordered one from him. The last time I ordered one from him, I asked about 5/8-24 and he said he did not offer it.

Re: Need help choosing muzzle break

If you have a local shop that can do barrel threading then take a look at a Badger Ordnance FTE brake. The brakes do not have to be installed to align perfect because it uses a clamp style set screw.

Re: Need help choosing muzzle break

Just curious, whichever break I choose, do I need to measure my outside diameter of the barrel to make sure the break is wider? Probably a stupid question but I'm new at this. Also wha,t should I expect to pay for having the barrel threaded?

I'm leaning towards the little bastard but have not decided yet.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Need help choosing muzzle break

The smith will want to know the OD of the barrel so that he can machine the rear of the brake to fit flush against the shoulders.

Threading a muzzle will generally run between $75 to $125.

Don't forget to look at RWS's brakes.

He's a hide member and does EXCELLENT work and his PRICING & DELIVERY is unbeatable!
