I'm in the process of gathering the parts I need to put together my new "ranch gun" shorty .308 and need a little advice or educated opinions on the stock. I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint rifle in left hand (obviously I'm left handed) that I plan to strip down have the barrel shortened to about 18" and then capped off with a YHM QD brake for attaching my YHM suppressor. My goal with this rifle is for it to be short, light and accurate. Something I can throw over my shoulder, hop on my 4-wheeler and not worry to much about it banging around. I recently took delivery of a GAP custom bolt rifle for the bench rest and prone long range shooting, so this will be it's more portable (and less expensive) alter ego. I'm sold on the Manners stocks and am 90% sure I want a thumbhole style this go around. SO after all this, I guess my question is which of their two offerings to go with?? What are the real differences? Keeping in mind I'm left handed, I guess the T5A is out as it's molded specifically for right hand shooting. I also like the fact the T5 is available in the molded in camo colors where the GAT isn't for some reason. The picture of the GAT on their website is a little lacking, so if anyone has better pictures, that would be great! From what I can tell, they are pretty similar with the GAT looking more rounded. Is this a fair assessment? OK.. I'll stop now and wait for some advice.

I say go with a GAT since you are left handed and it is a ranch/kick around rifle. I dont have a T5 but i do have a GAT with mini chassis an its a pretty sweet setup. i haven't been able to do a side by side comparison but it confirms to me i actually like the thumb hole style which i wasn't sure of and that, and it is very maneuverable for positional shooting. also some to think about is if you get the 90% with out the chassis you can get it pretty light although tom told me you could get the T5 a little lighter.. I spoke with Tom Manners on the phone a time back over a tech question and he told me that he uses the GAT on his comp rifle. I just got a T4A last week so i can do a liitle comparison between thumbhole and standard.

Ill try and get you some pics i had mine customized by sending it to "StockDoc" on here and had it converted to an adjustable cheek piece with the same Terry Cross hardware that manners uses on theirs.

I like a short riffle to have a vertical grip. Thumb hole or pistol they make it easier to move in a hurry. You don't have to readjust your hand to move the riffle in a hurry.

Thanks for the input FamilyMan. I have the T4A on my new GAP build, great stock! If you can find some pictures that would be great. How mush was it to convert to an adjustable cheek if you don't mind?

After some heavy looking today, I've also come across the XLR Evolution...I need to stay off of here. I'm just confusing myself. I will be using the chassis system for simplicity sake and the XLR looks to infinitely adjustable. Just not sure I want to go with a metal stock. Even down here in Texas it's cold during deer season and some half frozen chunk of aluminum doesn't sound too pleasant.
