I have a 18” 223 ar15 used mainly for target shooting but want it to be usable in a shtf situation with ranges of 0-500 . I’ve been researching scopes but I can’t decide on what magnification to get. I originally wanted a 1-6,8,10 but after reading I’m leaning more towards a 2-10 with a offset mrd. I like the price, availability and reviews of the viper pst vrs say razor 1-10 or 1-6. Thanks for any suggestions.

How often do you expect to shoot this rifle within 25 yards? Is weight or size something that your concerned about?
25 yards probably not often I hope. More like 50 to practice transitioning to the red dot but it’s more for target shooting. I found one in the post exchange. NXS 2.5-10X42

I love my Burris MTAC 1-4x24 with Illuminated reticle which happens to be my current AR rifle scope, Has excellent batteries, is waterproof, fog-proof, and shock-proof. And mostly importantly it's made in America.

That would be a perfect scope especially if you have a canted red dot. My vote is that NSX

I have that NSX on a CM762 with the same intended role and use - offset irons instead of RDS, but same logic.

Great optic with illumination and adjustable parallax.

Went with the NXS 2.5-10X42 with a Geissele Super Precision mount. Now I gotta decide between the delta point pro and Trijicon RM01 3.25 MOA Red RMR Type 2. Open to other suggestions also. Thanks.
