I have a picture i found of a what i think is a m40a1 remake But with a diffrent kind of barrel that dosent get thinner the length of the barrel. Anyone have a clue who makes this barrel or the maker of the rifle? Im makeing an m40a1 and looking for the exact kind of barrel that would fit in a mcmilian htg. Thanks

Re: Need help identifying a barrel

Go & look on a few of the custom barrel maker's websites. They have weights listed for the various contours. And if it's just a straight taper, it's pretty easy to do the math to figure out what the barrel will weigh.

IMO, the MTU contour's over kill, other member please fill me in on it's perks if I'm way off base. And a straight taper is a good bit heavier than the MTU/AMU contours. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that a rifle built with one might pass the 20lb mark, when fitted with glass, & sling, etc.

Lilja has some great articles on choosing contours for various applications & calibers. As well as MV numbers as he cut back a barrel or two an inch or two at a time. And of course there are weights listed for contours on the site. www.riflebarrels.com
The bore scope video's way cool if you haven't seen it. Although despite looking fugly thru a bore scope, there are a lot of factory stock barrels which shoot great.

If you dig around on here, a few members have also done the cut back the barrel an inch at a time, measuring MV's along the way. As have a few custom smiths. Such info's also mentioned here on the Hide. Likely accessable thru the Hide search engine, & or the Google Sniper's Hide search engine.

BTW, welcome to the Hide. And please do tell us a bit more about yourself. IE; fill in the blanks on your profile.
