Need help installing IMUNS, Integrated Mount Universal Night Sight. Has anyone installed one of these? I need to install it on a AI-AE. Is it just a matter of taking the skins off and punching a pin out, taking the old aluminum block out, and replacing with this one and replacing the pin? Here is a pic of the part from badger: Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

punch the roll pin out that hold your current spigot receptacle in place. Pull the receptacle out, insert IMUNS and replace roll pin.

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Absolutely run a drop of oil, WD40 (my choice), or some lube down the sling mounting plate to aid in it's separation from the bipod mounting block inside the chassis.
This is due to a piece of rubber placed there between the two parts, but not mentioned in the instructions.
This rubber insulation pad is installed by Accuracy International to prevent any rattle from the two parts.

Someone from AI posted this tip and it was of great help when I installed my IMUNS.

Thanks guys I appreciate the info...Edwin, the rubber piece you mention, it stays attached to the stock while changing this part out, correct?
Seems easy enough...I will let you know how it goes.

It's a round rubber pad incorporated into the bipod mounting block that you remove/replace with the IMUNS. The rubber has a tendency to stick to the sling mounting plate, and the oil loosens it. I didn't think I'd ever get the plate out (and it holds the bipod mountng block in place) until I hit it with a drop of WD40. It instantly released.
On the IMUNS the function of the rubber pad is replicated with a set screw (with soft point, part #6 in diagram) that you install (#5 and #8 in instructions).

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Hey guys! I currently have a AI stock, and I have been eyeing the Badger IMUNS. Does this unit have any "play" after you install it into the stock, or is it a secure fit? Also, my barrel is quite large, and I think I might have less than 1/8" of free space around the barrel after the IMUNS is installed. Not sure if this is enough space to keep the barrel from touching the IMUNS during firing. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Ive been looking into one of these. Do any of you know if the bottom plate (number 3 on the Badger installation pdf)is piccatinny railed? If not do any of you think its possible to replace that part with a rail or add one? Am looking at the Atlas V8 bipod which from what Ive seen mounts onto a rail. (no spigot at the moment).

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Thanks Edwin, thats good to know! Does anyone have information on the free space around the barrel after the IMUNS is installed. Another concern is "barrel whip".. I dont have a factory barrel. I have a 22" barrel that is approx 1.2" at chamber, and tapers off to .985" at muzzle..

KIWI- You bring up an interesting point. I would like to know as well.. I called Badger up today, but got a voice mail.. You would think since they put 3 rails on the IMUNS, they could have another rail on the bottom.. Hopefully someone can tell us

I don't think it would be hard to add a rail, as it doesn't have one. You'd have to drill and tap 2 holes, that's all, after getting a suitable rail. I've thought about this myself, just haven't researched the rail aspect of it yet, but I bet Accu-Shot has something that would work perfectly.
Accu-Shot also sells the rail that will fit the slot in the bottom of the chassis, I have one on my rifle, but it does put the bipod back pretty far.
The below photo shows it's location pretty good, it's the BT28 AFAR Kit. I was waiting on the IMUNS mounting plate when this photo was taken, Badger left it out of my kit, but Triad sure got them on the ball, I had it in 2 days from Badger after notifying Triad.

NICE setup Edwin!!! Whats the name of that cheek piece that holds your ammo? I like it

As far as your bipod setup goes, are you going to keep it where its at, or you going to mount it to the IMUNS?

It's the Bauer Arms Ammo Management System, bauerarms.com, terrific service from these guys.

Nope, when I got the IMUNS lock plate/bipod mount, I put it there. Been very pleased with it mounted that way, I may eventually go with a spigot mounted Atlas or Sinclair, but haven't been able to check one out yet.
Got no complaints about the notched Harris with pod-lock, and I really like the location mounted to the lock plate. It's also very very solid.

Here is the configuration now, also with the USO Posa mount and sunshade/ARD. Might have to try the shorter 2" Sunshade/ARD, I have to remove it to run the AN/PVS-22 OSTI UNS (Universal NightSight), which is for the best anyway.

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

EDWIN- Not sure if I asked you. But have you noticed your Barrel touching the IMUNS during firing? Approximately how much clearance do you have inside the IMUNS where the Barrel goes through it?

No contact between the two, and I'd guess my clearance isn't the greatest as it's a pretty heavy profile, but it is dead center.

Youve just convinced me to get one. What a great looking setup. I have a PEQ15 that I want to experiment with, so will see how that goes. I'll have a look into that lower rail set up and if I come up with something Ill be sure to let you know.

You may want to try contacting Marty at Badger Ordnance directly and see if he can hook you up with one. Not sure if Steve at Triad Tactical has them or not.

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Did your imuns only come with 1 rail? Because that is all that they come with. You can bu an extra side rail for about $30. 00. But if you did not get any side rail i would defintely call them up if i were you. Based on their reputation they will get you out a new one free of charge. Let us know what they say

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

While we're on the topic of the side rail, I've got a question. I have an IMUNS and the two screws that hold the side rail, when secured all the way down, push into the inside of the piece a little ways. I have a heavy contour barrel and the two screws start making contact with the barrel before it's secured down completely. Is this normal, or is there shorter screw options available?

Thanks.

Ken

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

KFT- Interesting. I have never heard of this issue before, but deff not a good one. I would call up Badger and let them know what is going on. From what I have heard, they will take care of you! If worse comes to worse, you can go to Lowes and get the right size screw. I say it would cost you $.30? Let us know how it works out for ya!

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Yep, gave Marty an email about the side screws being too long. Basically, I just filed down the side screws until they no longer protruded into the inside of the mount when tightened down. Just used a little elbow grease and wore down the file on my leatherman a bit, but it did the trick.

Re: Need Help instal Badger IMUNS Integrated Mount

Ummm...yeh. i finally installed mine today. the directions are a little out of order. Im sure if youre the designer of the mount it makes perfect sense. I found myself bolting and unbolting parts over and over again because a step was proposed prior to another. but after its done its an awesome design and mount. PS. the tiny set screw they give you for tightenting the sling attachment was just wandering alone and soo small in the ox. it could have soo easy been lost!

Sorry to bring an old thread to life and a lot of the pics and PDF link to instructions are gone. But does it matter which way you drive the roll pin out? And from what I am understanding you have to remove the front sling loop in order to install the IMUNS?
