Well I finally did it and got my 338lm really didn't plan on it tell December but grew a pair and told the wife look what I got today. But now I need to put a piece of glass on top. I'm really thinking about putting a night force on it for two reasons one they tend to get five stars and two there here in Idaho and that is were I'm at. I'm just worried because this is my first time dropping 2000 on a scope and would like to look at all the options . Oh and yes I have the space to use it and plan on it.

I am also in the process of making my first nice scope purchase. I would suggest looking at the Vortex Razor HD's and SWFA's. Alot, of people on here really like the bushnell elite's but I sent mine back because it was misrepresented on their website.

what features are most important to you regarding the scope? Clarity? Reliability? matching turrets? Illumination? tell us more, and we can help you out better.

Generally on a 338lm you will want something with a higher magnification like in the 5-25 range. If you plan on going Nightforce you will be limited to a second focal plane scope. If you want a 1st focal plane, then you will have to go with another brand. Vortex will keep you in the same price range. I have the 5-25 NSX on mine and have no complaints. Although when Nightforce comes out with a 1st focal plane scope in this magnification range I will be selling my current NSX. A little more information on your experience and needs will help answer your questions.

Well clarity is important and durability is just as important. From what I have been reading I should be getting matching turrets as well. To give you a bit of background I've been shooting an ar in 308 for a few years and have just reached 1000 yards this year and wanted more so I went with the 338. There is a group of long range shooters here that I will be joining next year so that will be its main use. The wife said no more going out and riding the cr500 on weekends like I'm in my 20s and I'm already set up for this just no scope lol.

Do some reasearch, I think you will find the Vortex HD will fit perfectly. The other options, like S&B or USO, will be above the price point you are looking at.
