Just picked up a Mausingfield la from ted and now i dont know what i want to do. I was thinking 28 nosler or 300wm. This is a elk rifle and want to keep it light. So ill be looking at s proof barrel for that. Any light tactical stocks you guys like? Or im debating on s chassis system. Vortext razor g2 is going on top unless i sell it.

if it is a true hunting rifle go with a regular stock, most chassis are heavier. and chassis have mags which may bump into limit depending on which state. would love to use my ax308 in 260 on a few hunts over the past few years but the state and canada (wolf hunt) didnt allow a 10 round mag for hunting.
for hunting id go with the 300. when the time comes that you forget your ammo (which happened to me one trip years ago) i went to the local hardware store in a small town in idaho and got ammo. 28 nostler prob wont be there.
the elk wont know the difference.
we all get caught up and look at the ballistics but 200 years ago they were killing elk with inaccurate ball muskets. theyre animals not tanks.

I would stay away from a chassis because of weight! I might even think of a different scope for the same reason. As far a caliber both are vary capable for elk. I really like my Leupold VX-6 3-18 for my light hunting rifle. Exposed turrets, lightweight and is great in low light.
If this were mine:
Remington Hunter's Edge from McMillan or an M40A1 w/o the cheek hardware; Classics never die. I personally would use a fluted #4 all steel barrel over the carbon. Put the savings towards better optics or whatever. Finish it at @20". A 1" thick "woose pad" on the back end so you don't get beat up. Low profile DBM from Sunny Hill to complete the ensemble.
Simple, elegant, and respectful to the classic American Sporting Rifle. Save the tactical stuff for PRS.
