What is the filling called you stick in the unfilled bags I just got one and need something to fill it with its one that you use under the stock. I cant remember for the life of me where to get it

I think you mean poly beads or poly-fil micro beads. You can get them at Wal-mart (at least mine carries them in the craft section), or at places like craft stores/fabric stores.

Not sand the beads would work just thought that I saw some stuff made just for bags but i may use the micro beads thanks

Lots of different things. Dry sand is the oldest. Sinclair sells a "heavy sand" that doubles or triples the weight. Some use rice, some pop-corn. They sell at hobby stores in some-places poly beads (used for stuffing dolls) that reduces weight and won't absorb water like rice and stuff. If shooting off a bench the heavier stuff is better. If carrying and using to shoot prone with the bag in the rear only, front bipod, the lighter stuffing is better. JMHO

I got small aquarium rocks for the heavy bags I made, and used airsoft bb's for the light bags. I chose those fillers based on the idea that they would eventually get wet somehow, and won't absorb water like Former Naval Person discussed.

I think someone on here said they used popcorn. I have used cat litter for my small bags that I carried to the tree stand. It helped in saving weight.

I nknew you guys would give me some great ideas!! The fish rocks and the old media I have tons of and the rice or popcorn is awesome I have a few small bags I'll try some of each on and let ya'll know

Just don't use chocolate chips in warm weather, or you will look like a 2 year old with chocolate all over you and you will provide a hilarious photo op for you hunting buddies.

Down side to rice, beans, or popcorn is mold. For stationary bags, shot has been the filler of choice for years. Plastic beads work just fine for bags you are going to pack.

I used new corn cob media. I bought a 40# or 50# bag from an Abrasives Supply Store a few years ago and had plenty at the time. Using old media would be ok if the bag is water proof but if it ever gets wet you might get some nasty stuff leaking out.

When I made my sock bag (which I still use), I was in a course down at Blackwater.
After first day of class, all the students went over to WalMart to find Poly Pellets and socks... but the pellets/beads had been cleaned out by earlier arrivals. So my spotter and I bought up a pile of Beanie Baby type toys and 'Gutted them out." The filling was perfect!

Since I'm usually schlepping my rear bags around in the field, I stay away from the sand, heavy sand, bbs, shot solutions. For a weight/stability compromise, the poly pellets work for me (hobby store variety that are slightly smaller than bb diameter).
I didn't think to try the airsoft pellets though (good idea).
I've also found that the fill material diameter and the % of volume you are actually filling make a difference. For me, I like slightly smaller than bb diameter with the volume fairly "full". This seems to keep the bag formed to the contour of my stock/accupod across mutliple shots. Of course, sand would be better but I'm not willing to carry the weight.
I recently had a bag that uses very small diameter poly pellets with low volume of bag actually filled. It's too "springy" for my tastes, i.e., it doesn't hold it's shape at all. Topping it off with larger poly pellets seems to have done the trip (with minimal weight added).
