I have alot of respect for the knowledgeable people on this site, sure could use advice. I am about to purchase a new Remmington model 700 sendero in 7mm mag,I am looking for an accurate cartridge for hunting out to longer ranges but not a barrel burner either.I am wanting to use Berger 168 VLDS.I am new at reloading and not ashamed to admit it. Help sure would be appreciated. Thank you

A lot of people find a sweet spot for the 168 VLD with H1000 around 70.5. I use a Fed 210 Match primer for lower extreme spreads. Start with the bullet at the rifling with 69 gr of H1000 and work up. Once you find the velocity you want, start moving the bullet back ten thousands at a time. Mine likes to shoot at forty thou off the lands.

I am on the same page with 260, my preferred load for my 7mag sendero is 168VLD's, 70.5gr H1000 touching the lands, I have been using fed 215 primers but intend to try the 210 match based on 260shooter's loads. I am using nosler brass, real consistent in 50 piece batches, but batch to batch varies greatly.

Re: Need help on reloading setup for 7mm mag

ex archer best way to go about doing this is to work out whats available in your area in the way of powders and projectiles.

Then determine if one powder will fill multiple roles. Perhaps you might prefer a different powder because of the speeds it produces.

If you dont want to burn out barrels, chosing a powder that works among different rifles you have, and perhaps one that even gives slower speeds will be an advantage.

Also, shooting heavier projectiles at a slower speed will help to maintain your barrel life.

The most important thing I feel is to work out your own load. Sure you can look at other peoples figures but honestly, each rifle is different and from a safety perspective its best to work out everything according to your rifle.

If i were planning on shooting Bergers I would take seating depth into serious consideration. Most remingtons have long throats, which mean Bergers are usually seated out long which means mag length is useless. Will this be the case with your rifles? Are they mag feed or internal mag?

If that becomes an issue and you dont want to hand feed then you have a problem.

Boy. I can't say enough thanx for all the help guys. I Know I'll have to play to tweak my own setup but it's nice to see who's having the best success with certain setups. It never hurts to ask people that know more than i do on this topic. We all have our specialties. Need welding advice ? I can offer that.
