I have to order the scope tomorrow. Its a x-mas present from my father to me and he is leaving town until after x-mas. He wants me to order my scope so he can pay for it for me!! I have decided between a Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 or the vortex viper similar power. Prices are about the same. Scope will be going on my Jon beanland 6x47L Aics chassis. Which one of these scopes is the better optic all around?? What a pops i have!! He is actually getting me something i want. I asked for a nightforce but no go. I am trying to get him involved in long range shooting as well, and i think i am about there. we are collecting pieces for a tactical build, lots of fun being 35 years old and still hanging out with dad!! Anyway what scope should i order??? Lee

Re: Need help picking between the 4200 and vortex

i absolutely loved EVERY elite 4200 i ever had EXCEPT the 6-24x50. all of the others were the 6-24 or 8-32 adjustable objective and they were as clear as it gets. i never could get that 6-24x50 side focus anywhere close in clarity to the others. it didnt last long and went away. i could have gotten a lemon and i have been tempted to try another one since most people seem to like them. right now, you can get the vortex from liberty or cameraland for at least $50 less than the elite and there is another $50 rebate. i have yet to read any negatives on the vortex. actually, i just ordered two myself this morning. i got such a great deal, i will get two more if they are as nice as i was told. i have been using the new sightron sIII and it is superb but doug assured me the vortex was right there with it in quality. i think it is a no brainer for the price.

I'm pretty certain the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50MDSF has more adjustment range (~15moa) than the Bushnell 4200 6-24x50MDSF. Might be a factor to you. However, I like the tactical knobs on the Bushnell, the Viper's are a little small (but very easy to reset).

I vote Vortex and also vote for less which-should-I-buy threads.....
