Re: Need Help With Accuracy Int Scope Mount
The answers above are not correct.
With that scope, you will need a 28 MOA AI base to get out to 1000 yards with a .308.
Here's the reason. The total adjustment in the scope from a flat base includes both up and down elevation.
That means from a flat base, you'd have, with that scope 6.6 mils up and 6.5 mils down. Plus, you lose about 1.25 mil or about 4.25 MOA in achieving a 100 yard/meter zero, due to the drop over the zero distance.
So, you really only have about 5 mils of up elevation available from a flat base.
If you add 5.25 mils (the mil equivalent of 18 MOA), you get 10.25 mils, which is not enough to get most .308 loads out to 1000 yards at sea level on a cool day.
The next increment available in AI bases is 28 MOA, or 8.15 mils. With that added to the 5 mils of scope adjustment, you've got enough to get a .308 to 1000 yards.
So, 18 isn't going to do it.
