need help with benchmark powder

i loaded 45 grns of benchmark in my 308 with 175 smk but its too hot how much should i cut back

Just a little hot at 76000+ psi. 60,000 is max(BE CAREFULL).
39gn should get you to 50,000psi start there and work up

I'd cut back to the point where using published data seems like a good idea. Congratulations on still having fingers. And eyes. Eyes are good too...

Hodgdon lists 41.5 grains as Max, 38.0 to start. That stuff is way faster than I am used to, I don't think I load it in anything anymore....

RL15 works for me for that combination.

Here is my 175gr load. nosler 175 custom comp, 42.2gr of Benchmark, lapua brass, wlr primers, OAL 2.830. This gives me a velocity of 2710fps avg and shoots around 1/2moa in my Rem 700 5r. I've used it successfully to a 1000yds and I have no pressure signs.
