Rifle Scopes need help with magnifiction

i am in the market to buy a nightforce scope and upgrade from my leupold thats starting to have issues returning to my 100 yard zero. im trying to get into some long range shooting
(as long as i can find somewhere pass 600 yards close to where i live) but what im struggleing with is the magnification. im not sure if i should buy the F1 3.5-15x50 with 1/10 mil and the MLR, or get the SFP 5.5-22x50 with the 1/10 mil and MLR. any input would be helpfull.

But my guess is that the 15x is plenty for you.

Can't go wrong any way you go. I opt for the 5.5x22 but for a quick rig the F1 is great. The F1 is going to cost more and you might not like how the reticle gets smaller or you might like the feature. Try to fine one to look at. If you don't like it send it to me for a good home. Ha Good luck

1st off lets get some more info on your situation / rig setup before we all jump on the Leupy being a P.O.S.
What exact scope do you have from Leupold?
What magnification?
Tactical L/R, Mark 4, older VX I, II, or III, rifleman series, ???
What type of base and rings do you have?
What rifle, and caliber do you have?
Pictures could help us catch up as well.
We are more than willing to help.
Just need info.

And Leupold will fix their scope if it has failed.
If you ran over it, they probably won't fix it.
If you just absolutely hate it I will reluctantly take that POS off your hands and even pay for shipping.
If it's a VX I, you will have to pay shipping. Ha!

15 power is all that is needed inside 1000 yards, all my future scopes will be 4-16ish FFP, more magnification is nice but rarely needed or used in my case, I have a NF 5.5-22 and a PRH 5-25

remington 700 308 with mcmillan a3-5. old picture i also have a badger ordnance m5 dbm. leupold mark 4 3.5-10x40. and what i meant was it wont return to zero, when i go back to my 100 yard i always have to adjust

i heard somewhere that on the nightforce scopes you can use the reticle accuratly on 15x...does that have any truth to it? would it be true for the 5.5-22

I think you need to read up on the differences between FFP and SFP, then decide what is going to be right for your particular situation. F-Class and BR shooters mostly prefer SFP for the fine reticle at max power, while most tactical and varmit shooters prefer FFP for an accurate mil scale reticle regardless of magnification level for hold overs and mover leads.

For your choice in magnification levels, what do you want to do with it? It has a lot to do with what you will need and what you may prefer.

I would just send it back and tell Leupold to fix it.
So many people have that same Leupold including me and mine works just fine at returning to zero.

I'm not against getting another scope, by all means buy what you want. A NF is a great scope, I have one I love.

Either way you would have to get the Leupold fixed to use or sell.

ok let me straighten a few things up. im not bashing leupold in anyway and i dont plan on getting rid of the mark 4 i have and will use it on my next build. i did get some good info however and decided that since i want to start shooting tactical style matches (and if i can find a range past 200 yards around here) im gonna go with the F1 3.5-15. ive had my mark 4 for two years now and only recently having issue with the zero, but the only way i would get rid of it is to trade for something else otherwise its gonna be on something. thanks again for the guys who gave me the info i was looking for

Nice rifle.

I will not shoot anything but fixed or FFP for mathces that induce pressure on the shooter. One less thing for me to mess up!!
Holding over/under or holding for wind and missing because your scope was not on the correct power is an issue I refuse to experience ever again!

Of the two scopes mentioned I'd get the F1. I run USO 5-25 and 3.8-22 on my boltguns, but usually shoot with them dialed at around 15-20. The extra mag is nice when needed, but the scopes are much larger than my 3.2-17
