I have been visiting the sight for a long time and have finally got around to registering... I have a Remington 700 AAC-SD and I just purchased a Vortex PST 4-16x50 to replace the cheap scope that is currently on top. I am going to order the Seekins 20moa rail, but I don't know how low I can go on the scope rings. Can anyone confirm if I can use the low (.82") rings with this combo? I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, I couldn't find it if it was.

Re: Need help with ring height

Thanks, but I had already found that thread... I havn't ordered the base yet because I was going to order it at the same time as the rings, so I don't know the height of the base over the barrel and don't have calipers to measure that anyway. I think I will just order the base and medium rings and hope they get here before my scope does.

Re: Need help with ring height

I have the same rifle and same scope. I used a weaver 20 MOA base with TPS TSR low rings ( listed as .335" on MidwayUSA ). I have just enough clearance over the rail to make it work. Cutting down the rail by a few sections could be an option, however the regular fitment just barely works out.

Hope that helps.

Re: Need help with ring height

I'm not worried about the rail at all as I would just cut it off if it's in the way. I'm only concerned about the space between the objective and the barrel. I just ordered the 20moa base and medium rings(.87"). When those and the scope get here I will show the result on here.

Hey man i have a remington 700 308 with a NF F1 3.5-15x50mm and i run a nightforce 20 moa base and i run the low .855 rings and its perfect height! It sits about 1/8-3/16 above the barrel and i didnt have to cut off the base either.

My point was more geared toward my rings being lower than yours, and thus your desired setup should work.

Do what?

Re: Need help with ring height

I have a R700 AAC-SD as well. Weaver 20moa rail on it. I went with the medium Leopold Mk4 rings. The BC flip up caps just clear the barrel (50mm objective).
I did have to cut the rail back to get the scope to clear and maintain the correct eye relief. Easy enough to do, then bedded the base afterwards.
