This will be mounted on a 6.5 Grendel,19.5" barrel, I'm not sure which one to get LV or MV, I know nothing about this round, it looks to me that its right in the middle of the too, any info will help. I plan to use this rifle to hunt and shoot F class, so I'm looking at the 3.5x15 also with either NP-R2 or NP-1 So lets hear some advice

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

The NPR1 and NP-1 are not Velocity Reticles. I'm personally not a big fan of velocity / BDC reticles. I recommend getting a reticle that matches the turret this way you can use the turrets or the reticle.

Here is a link to how the Velocity Reticles works.

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

I have the LV mounted on my AR10 and really love it, but when I ran the numbers to match the reticle I came up with the LV and the MV, I haven't shot the rifle yet, so I don't know what I'm getting out of it, I can always go slow, but might not be able to get it going fast enough to use the MV

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

I bought the 3.5x15x56 NP-R2

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

The reason I recommend the NPR1 is mainly do the 2moa left and right hold were the NPR2 is 5moa. The 5moa is almost useless (really hard to break down). Also the NPR1 is 1moa down were the NPR2 is 2moa down. I can work with the 2moa.

No matter what you are getting a great scopes. Congratulations on the scope.

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

If i were using the vel. reticle for hunting/F class, i'd apply the reticle itself for hunting only. For F-Class comp i'd forget the BDC protion of the reticle and use center-X with turret comeups.

I'm a reticle guy thru and thru for hunting though.

Just run the ballistics program for your load and get the reticle that matches the subtension as close as possible and then fine tune at the range. Most of my BDC-style reticles don't even come close to an intuitive hundred yd. system. I just validate the dope (at optics highest power) and create a range sticker for my Butler Creek flip-up covers like this--

I never know what the stadia's zeros are in the field, since my system's are calcd for 25-50-yd. intervals ONLY--for me the stadia are only there to reference interpolation between stadia (and rangefinding)...most of the time.

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

In the realm of possibly relevant.

I've not used one of the NF Velocity recticles, but I do have a cheap Bushnell DOA on my muzzle loader. Based on my range time and hunting it's a great piece of kit for it's intended use.

Yes, it's a cheap scope, but it's on a muzzle loader that's not getting shot more than 200 yds but it is great for making dead deer and feeling good that you hit where you aimed.

I'd consider trying one of the Velocity recticles out on a hunting rifle, but for F class I'd get something else.

Re: Need help with Velocity reticle

This was my thoughts, but I went a different route, I have used my 2.5x10 LV at 600 both ways, using the reticle to hit steel was way faster, dialing up was way more accurate / reticle for 3 gun, hunting, dial up for F class. thanks for all the advice
