I have a pre 64 long action model 70 that has been made into a custom rifle.

I took the firing pin assembly out of the bolt shroud and when I put it back in the safety will not go to the fire position without hitting with it with something. Once it is in fire it moves freely between unlock and safe and back to fire. Once it is back in fire it won't move back.

    Any ideas?

Once the firing pin assembly is out of the bolt shroud the safety works perfect.

    Thanks

Check the sear and trigger pins. Make sure they are seated. It's not likely the trigger pin is broken but check that. If a trigger job was done, it could allow the firing pin to rest farther forward when cocked. A little stoning on the cocking piece will fix it.

So I took the firing pin assembly out of the bolt shroud. I accidentally let safety go to fire and the firing pin fell into the groove. I can not get it back out of the groove. It feels like it is stuck. I have had the happen before and I was able to get it back out. It won't budge. Any ideas?
