I just bought a Savage model 10 FCP-SR and I want to outfit it with a good scope. I am looking a the Nikon Monarch 8-32x50mm to put on it.(I'm a college kid and can't afford a expensive scope)
I am wanting everyone's input on which optic I should buy.
I want to hunt with this gun but also I want to take some tactical long range classes just to develop my long range shooting. Any and all advice appreciated.

Re: Need help

8-32 seems like a lot of magnification. What caliber, and realistically how far do you expect to shoot it?

Edit: I see those are 308. Way too much magnification I think.

Re: Need help

What power of magnification do you suggest ?
Also do you have one in mind ?
I like to plan out my purchases for my "serious" gun supplies.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Need help

You need to provide more information on the purpose and useage of your rifle. The higher magnification will hamper most purposes rather than help. This is a special purpose scope and is way more than you will probably want or need.

Re: Need help

I took a quick look at what that Monarch costs, assuming that's the neighborhood of your budget. If so, maybe look at the following:

Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 (I'd get the FFP)
Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44 G2DMR
Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44
Super Sniper 3-9x42

Out of those I'd probably try and go with one of the first two.
