My buddy is looking for a scope for hunting hogs at abround 100-150yds. He's got a 22-250. Whats a good scope at a decent price? I guess Gen 3 is the way to go. Ive never looked though an Nv scope myself. Whos has the best prcies?
Deal with OpticsHQ or Tactical night vision. Both great companies with great customer service. I would say he at least needs a gen 2 + to not be dissappointed.
I like US Night Vision, http://www.usnightvision.com/
There used to be a guy named Lanny that was on their forum all the time. He worked with them somehow, but would get you good deal's on used NV scope's. A very nice scope you should look at is the USNV 441 in Gen 2+ or Gen 3. I bought a Gen 3 441 a few years ago from him. Mine has a laser IR light with it also, a new setup like mine was about $3500 at the time and I only paid around $1450 for everything. It was like new, has a very good tube in it, and a $250 laser IR light that can stay on the scope or be handheld like a small flashlight. You can shine the light down in the corner of a field 300 yards away, look through the scope, and everything is bright and clear. Nice setup.
We always try to tell folks save for a Gen 3 unit and you will not be disappointed with the brightness and clarity. Best price is not always a good thing with NV. With that said, a Gen 2 SHP (Super High Performance) is also a very good system in regards to resolution (almost equal to a Gen 3), but lacks the overall brightness. The D-740(4x) or 760(6x) with either tube work VERY well. Hope this helps.
+1 for Victor. I got one of his D-740 units a few years ago and the thing just flat out works. Have it mounted on a 6.8 AR15 and have no trouble hitting steel out to 400 yds. Victor is also a great guy to deal with.
As a NV dealer I must agree with Victor. Put cheap tires on the wife's car.... Let the kids go to school hungry.//// But for GOD'S sake don't skimp on your nightvision gear. Save for Gen III. Actually for your use I would consider a PVS-14 behind an ACOG 4 or 6 power. Thats what I shoop on my AR15. It will do what you want and yet give you a LOT more versatility. You can use either of them as stand alone units, and the cost should be about the same or less than a top dedicated NV scope. And a PVS-14 is a NUST HAVE for every home. My 2 cents....Goldie
Not in mine, dmg. Everything was crystal clear. And the field of view is better than with an EO Tech or Aimpoint, + you get the built in magnifcation. Did ylace the Barrett? Goldie
