Zeiss Conquests are among the best bang for the buck in hunting scopes. The 56mm objective options out there are, to me,'pretty much for dedicated low light use, IMO... as opposed to general hunting environments.
There are some excellent hunting scopes for $800-$900 out there. Here are some other 56mm offerings:
Meopta R1 3-12x56
Trijicon 2.5-10x56
Leupold VX3 3.5-10x56
Steiner GS3 3-15x56
The lowlight title in that group likely goes to Meopta, though they are all great.
I'd, myself opt for a 50mm or even 40-42mm objective for average hunting situations, though.
The large objective only help above 7x or so, and I don't find myself usually needing that much magnification at twilight.
In the 40-50mm range, I'd look at:
Swarovski Z3
Zeiss Conquest (can be found under $400 new if you search online)
Steiner Gs3
Leupold VX-R and VX3
Meopta meostar and meopro
Burris Veracity
Minox ZA 3 and ZA5 HD
Vortex HS
All that said, the Conquest 3-9x40 or 3.5-10x50 would be a best value, IMO.
On the high side, the Swaro Z3 4-12x50 would be my choice, or maybe the Meopta R1 4-12x50.
