So before the laws change in this suck ass state on October 1 I want to get two actions to build off of later. I'm looking at the group buy from nwactionworks and am planning on sending them to ga precision to be reworked before I build. I know one will definitely become a .308, the other probably a second 6.5 x 47 Lapua. My question is this...since this is probably gonna be my last hurrah because I refuse to be treated like a criminal in this state to buy a weapon, should I go with two short actions or a short and a long for more flexibility down the road. As of right now I only have one long action, a savage 110, that is a factory 243. What say you guys?

If it were me and I had to choose two calibers they would be 260 (short) and 280ai (long). There are a ton of good choices, 7mm-08, 6.5x47, 6.5 creedmoor, 7wsm, 6mm Remington, etc. Some are more practical than others if you dont reload. Don't let me dissuade you from .30 caliber rounds but I like to stick with 6.5 and 7mm.

I'm more wondering if it would be smart to get a long and short action, instead of two shorts for more flexibility in the future. I need a good .308 because I don't have one currently, and lets face it, everybody needs at least one. The 6.5 Lapua is gonna be the other, but would it be a complete waste to put either of these in a long action?

As far as Maryland goes, the long and short of it is that everything currently regulated becomes banned and everything currently unregulated becomes regulated after October 1. I refuse to be fingerprinted and treated like a criminal and buy a license in order to purchase a firearm. So I'm stocking up now to be able to build in the future.
