So this has probably been done to death, but I'm gonna ask anyway! My shooting will mainly be target shooting out to eventually 1000yds with some ocasional hunting thrown in. Possibly would like to do FT/R and Tactical competitions as well in the future. The gun is a .308!

I have a 4-14 power scope, but am interesting in the new SS mil/mil line of fixed power scopes, due to their great CS. I have been looking at the 10x and 12x. How would these scopes do out to 1000 or further possibly? Also how would they work for the competition type I mentioned??? Or would keeping my WOTac 4-14 be a better option? Thanks for any help!

Re: Need some advice!

The fixed power will be a better option. You will be able to easily use you mil-dots or in that case mil diamonds to get exact corrections quickly. A SFP scope like you are using is ok but requires calculations quickly in order to send follow up shots on target. This is an issue in a timed event or if the wind is changing. I have a USO ST-10 and I have no trouble seeing everything I need to see out to 1500 yards assuming I'm not going after a ground hog at over 1000yards. However that is a different level of glass. My previous scope was a 16x SS and it did great. It simply wasn't as clear and the FOV was limited due to the higher power. If I was you I'd go 12xSS and you'll be set. You can do everything you want to do with it.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: Need some advice!

Thanks a bunch! I think I am going to start saving for the 12x and possibly trade in the scope I currently have. I would love to have an ST-10 but sadly money just won't allow it now..but I think in the future I will definantly be adding one to the collection! I never hear bad things about them! Thank you for the advice!
