This is my first post here so please be understanding. First I don't work on remington rifles but a firend ask me to look over the rifle so it needed a triger and a scope ring cover and I ordered them and some Marine paint to tuch it up it came from a master sarg of the marine corps and it was in the first Golf war so heres my problem I got the trigger in and the safety in and then I pulled the bolt back and it would not stay in it, came out and so I just need to know what parts I need to get it to stay in the reciever. by the way it is a 308 with a 26" bull barrel and it even came with a box of match shells the funny thing is there dated 1968 and this fella bieg a Master sarg in the marine's I sure would like to know the history of the rifle. I am hopeing it shots as good as it looks it also has a Zeiss Scope I also would like a ball park idea of the worth of this rifle I know the scope runs between 9 and 1199. and if I got the ser # right it was made in 1986 or 7 any thing you fellas can help me with will mean a lot to a old vet. thanks BiggerHammer

BiggerHammer, First I would like to say Welcome to the Hide. Second, what you need if you don't already have them is a bolt stop, and, or bolt stop spring. The bolt stop is a thin piece of metal the fits in a grove about two inches long on the left side, beside the trigger. The rear trigger pin holds it, and the spring in. The spring if more of a semi straight nature, and not of the coil spring type, although it does have one coil that gives it goes around the rear trigger pin to hold it in place. If you already have these parts in the gun, then likely the front trigger pin is sticking out just enough to rub the bolt stop, and cause it not to work. Hope this Helps.

Hey, and welcome.I'm certainly no "expert". Given the "description", of the gun. I'd pay a grand for it. With the scope, base, etc. If "ok", and "vintage", another 500 to a grand, depending on Power. Remington has a site, where you can "verify yr." Sounds like you've done that. Now it's "to you", as to worth. Was it "in the War"? Get a "history". A "written" history", from the owner.. A "Rifle with a history", becomes "collectible", and worth more. Hey, I got this gun ,VS "Hey I got the gun that shot Bin Laden". I can't wait to see what that gun gets, at auction, if it ever "surfaces".
