Need to match dies and shellholders from same mfr

Re: Need to match dies and shellholders from same mfr

Mix-n-match away. I use Forster Ultra Seaters, Redding Type 'S' F/L dies, and depending on the press, Forster shell jaws, Redding competition shell holders, RCBS shell holders, Dillon 550 shell plate...

Just don't mix and match once you get everything set up and dialed in i.e. don't set up with one shell holder and switch to another brand without checking the finished product *carefully*.

"Do I need to match dies with shellholders from the same mfr. or is it O.K. to mix and match?"

No, and yes.

I have maybe four manufacturers for the medium (308) case head. Will use anything I pick up. As indicated above once I start loading for a particular rifle I check.
I use a Mo gage and set it to size .001 to .002" shorter than a fired case shoulder.

I generally try to get the correct shell holder when I get the dies. But I do use with others on occassion. (I check the adjustment for the dies on each rifle. I use the chamber to set the sizing die.)
