I have an early sn Origin short action I’m trying to stuff a 300 wsm in. It works, but the feed ramps slightly over hang the box on my Hawkins magazine, causing the bullet tips of the 2nd and 3rd round to hang up under the lip. I sent the pictures to Ray at Zermatt and he recommended machining the feed ramp to be behind the box just a little. He knew of others who had done this and it fixed their feeding issues.

I have a drill press and could pick up a x-y vise. I don’t need to take much off and I would proceed slowly. Could I set it up to basically run the ramp into the side of the bit and shave off a little, or is that a bad idea? Should I set it up with the action in the correct spot and try to lover the bit and count the radius? Also, what end mill bit would you use? I suppose I could use a sanding drum for a cutter and go slow that way too. My only other option is a Dremel and I’m not doing that to my Origin.

    Thanks!

See if you have any riflesmiths in your area. Would be easy for them to do. Even a machine shop could do it.

That was done to a lot of Remington actions when people started moving to AICS mags 20 years ago.

I did my origin with the dremel sanding drum

The picture with a bullet caught on the feedramp is before I did it. Couldn't feed my 6.5 with 156's.

    Other two pictures are afterward
