Rifle Scopes Need to Rezero Bushnell Scope

I have a Bushnell Trophy 4-12 X 40mm scope that I have been using on a pre-filled pneumatic air rifle. It has a tendency to lose its zero every year or so, which results in the rifle hitting about one-half inch to the right at 50 feet. Bushnell has told me that this is normal for this scope (and most entry-level scopes), and that they recommend that I check the zero on the scope every 6 months or so. Has anyone else heard of a scope manufacturer admitting that their scopes loose zero on a regular basis, and that the scopes will consequently need to have their zeros checked an reset?
Thanks

it's just the recoil

Re: Need to Rezero Bushnell Scope

Thanks for all the feedback.

Note that this is a pre-filled pneumatic air rifle, not a spring gun. Spring guns have a large piston that is cocked using a lever and, consequently, when you pull the trigger the gun moves first forward and then backward. Because of this, springers require a special scope that can take this back and forth motion. But a pre-filled pneumatic has less recoil than a .22, and its just backward. So I don't think it’s the gun.

The folks at Bushnell understood that the gun isn't a 'springer", so they had no problem with the type of gun the scope is mounted on.

Re: Need to Rezero Bushnell Scope

I had the problem with a 7 mm rem mag savage purchased new with a Simmons 3-9x40 already installed, I used a box of ammo trying to sight it in and it would shift POI every 4 or 5 rounds until the crosshairs became an X, I replaced it with a Burris FF II and sighted it in around 7 years ago and the only time I had to rezero it was because I couldn't find the ammo I had used to sight it in with ( win 150 gr BST ) and soft point was shooting 1.5" low @ 100 yds.

Re: Need to Rezero Bushnell Scope

Typical for a Simmons scope my brother just have a Simmons 6.5-20X50 go south on him after very little use. He's replacing it with a Bushnell 4200 series scope. At least it'a big step up the quality ladder.

Re: Need to Rezero Bushnell Scope

It is not uncommon for cheap scope to have issues retaining zero no matter what manufacturer they are from.

If you want reliability you need to step up to a higher price point. Bushnell makes scopes that are very reliable. Just not in the line you have.
