Rifle Scopes Need Upper Tier Optic Input for Build

Building a 6.5 PRC and decided to get more skin into the game than my usually DMR 2, XTR 2, or PST 2. My best tier glass I currently own imo is either the Leupy Mk6 3-18 or Bushy XRS 2. All in all I really can’t see that much difference between any of them. The thought is I shot regularly and am thinking maybe now that I’ve been shooting LR for a fair amount of time maybe the next tier will make things easier?

I have owned NF NXS’s in the past and for a few months a S&B PM II. Why I stay with the DMR, XTR, or PST range of scopes on my rifles that get used weekly is simply because every time I pull the trigger on the next tier I find myself not seeing an appreciable difference and have some buyers remorse. The group of guys I shoot with are all into Khales, S&B, TT, and IOR. Really like the IOR but one guy who loves them to death had to wait 7 months on a warranty issue and had to send it to Romania or whatever eastern block country. The mechanical reliability is at the heart of the tier 1 optics I get that. I know I’m not even good enough to justify that being the big difference. I’m just wondering if there is something I’m missing or is this just me. A few weeks ago the BIL of one of our khales fanboys showed up with one of those PA platinums with the Deka-Mil ret, which I like a lot and put all of us to shame.

My budget is mid $3k for optic.

Are you shooting or hunting, sounds like shooting... I would suggest the Vortex Razor Gen2 for shooting or the AMG if hunting. The Nightforce flavors are awful good as well, it sounds like you know the brands but want a consensus, you will not get one, as scopes are like women and everyone has a different preference.

^ this. Different strokes for different folks. I personally have a gen 2 razor but I run prs comps as well. Carried it on a hunting rig for a year or two and said f’that. Now if it gets minted to the hunting gun it’s a 6.5 prc carbon barrel and I walk less and take longer shots. Currently looking for a lower tiered optic to put on the hunting rig. If from a bench it’s a tank

Also looking at used markets you can step up to the razor line for a couple hundo over a pst vs. a few k for say a kahles or nf. I am looking hard at the nx8 2.5-20 for an end all be all for shooting and hunting as it’s got such a great mag range

The rifle is going to be a dual purpose. Yes I know a hunting rig and PRS rifle are actually different tools, but I will use this to hunt our place in S. Tx not for outside TX.

100% agree on personal preference and different strokes. Same thing when it comes to bay boats on the TX gulf coast.

That NX8 definitely has my attention.

In reality, this is more a two part post. I really believe you get what you pay for in this game 99% of the time. My question is it my eyes that just don’t see the drastic differences between the tier 1 and tier 2 scopes in optical quality? When we get together to shoot optics come up all the time and I’m the only one who doesn’t see the differences. I have shitty vision without my contacts I’ve thought maybe that’s why but several of guys need corrective lenses too.

I’m considering a T5 with upgraded turrets I’ve shot behind them and used one for a couple matches. Also a Gen 2 Razor HD. As far as mechanical reliability how do they stack up with the tier 1 offerings?
