I have a really nice 6.8 spc with all the goodies top of the line parts. I put it up for sale early Aug to fund a scope for my GAP. Well I fell into some money and ended buying a scope. Now the dilemma just the other day I was offered a trade for a M1a loaded. First off a GAP-10 is in the future probably not short time but it will be had. Second I've always wanted a M1a. I don't really shoot the 6.8 so is it worth keeping around. I'm back in forth on trade no don't trade. What would you do both guns are equal value.

Re: Need your advice

If you don't shoot it, make way for the M1. Unless you just loose interest easy. If you do, you'll be right back here with the same dilemma but with the M1A. Just decide which you will enjoy more in the long haul if you can't afford them both. If you don't have any other AR platforms, I'd keep the 6.8 and maybe just sell the upper and cover the rest of the cost of the M1 with cash (if possible).

Re: Need your advice

Im a gun hoarder. Not that I have a huge collection... I have 10 long and short guns combined. Some I never shoot but i will never sell them. NEVERRRRRR!!!!!!

Re: Need your advice

The only thing is that got me thinking is that caliber really worth having if you have a if u get a gap-10 and 223. It would be bitter sweet cuz its a sweet AR and it shoots that well too.

Re: Need your advice

+1 To what Hawk said, granted I do have an admiration for the 6.8SPC round.. If you don't shoot it, then why have it? On the otherhand, if that is your only AR platform rifle then it maybe worth holding on too.

Re: Need your advice

The 6.8 seems most desired/used in a short barreled gun.
Small cartridge + Small gun = Super efficient package.
I think I'd buy a 16 or 18" 308 or 6.5 variant over another
6.8 in those same lengths.

Re: Need your advice

I've had several M1As including double lug and NM but, haven't kept any. They take a lot of work to be as accurate as a AR15 or 10, scope mounts are terrible and they're heavy.
I know they are used in HP comp but IMO they aren't a range gun and for a battle rifle I would rather have a G3. Wait for the GAP JMO.

The 7.62x51 is much more common, not to mention the military still is using it, and it certainly has "longer legs" than the 6.8x43 does. I feel the 6.8 would be a good replacement for the 5.56x45, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. JMHO.

Re: Need your advice

What other calibers and rifles do you have? If you are planning to get a GAP10, you'll have a 7.62, so a M1a could be redundant. But others would argue that it's a different platform, and consolidating calibers can be good.
