Sidearms & Scatterguns new 1911

Re: new 1911

If you're talking the STI Ranger II, then most definitely the Ranger II. I've owned one for the last 4 years and it was my EDC. They are extremely accurate and it shoots much better than I'm capable of doing. They are very well made and the fit and finish is excellent.

I've got a bad back and hip and the weight was finally starting to bother me badly. So last week I bought a Colt LW Commander that will be my new EDC. But the STI Ranger gets to be my new home defense gun and it will fulfill that role superbly. And as an added benefit the Ranger is made in America!!

Re: new 1911

Agreed, if just between the two of those, the Ranger II. But I think it's kind of odd that you're between two specific models which are different sizes.

Most people shopping for a 1911 pick the slide length first(Government/Commander/Officers/Defender) and then start working through the features and details they want.

You've picked two very different 1911 configurations, the RO is a 5" competition oriented gun and the Ranger II is a 4" carry oriented gun.

You may want to reconsider what you're even looking for, since you didn't say what that was.

Just any 1911 will do?
Small carry gun with snag free sights? IWB/OWB/shoulder?
Competition gun with precise, fragile and sharp adjustable sights?
Slide length? Frame length?

There are a gazillion 1911 choices and everyone will be along to throw in their favorite brand.
