Hi, just wondering if anyone has had any experiance they could share regarding loading the 220 SMK in a 300 WM?
Previously I've been running the 200's and achieving pretty consistant results, however when I went to resupply all they had were the 220's so I thought I'd give em a go...
I've got a choice of RE22, N160, IMR4831 powders (figured the 22 would be a good choice).
Be interested to know anyones preference on seating depths too for this particular bullet.
Rifle is a 700 PSS with ACIS stock.

Cheers
Ed

Re: New 300 WM load

if I understand it correctly its a 220 smk, loaded with enough H1000 to push the bullet 2850 (+) or (-) 50 fps. also using a match magnum primer. from what ive read online and take that with a grain of salt it looks like you would need 74ish grains of powder for this load. but as with any rifle I would just do a load work up. my sendero shoots bug holes with a middle of the road supply of 69 grains of imr4831 and 180gr bt's. If I load hotter the bullets really start to spread.

my plan is to just do a load workup and see what happens

Re: New 300 WM load

I guess you are talking about the military spec load. TBH its not my intention to duplicate it, its just I'm stuck with 220 SMK's as thats all my dealer had in at the time!
I'll work up a load as usual and see how it goes with the RE22.

Funny you should mention about the middle of the road loads cos I've experienced the same thing using the 200 SMK and IMR 4831.

Re: New 300 WM load

Nice one, thanks guys.

CanPopper, what COAL do you load to just out of interest (I know different guns like different jumps etc.. just curious what distance you seat from the lands)

Re: New 300 WM load

I use 0.01" off the lands. However, Evil 666 shoots pretty well with max spec 3.34 too. The SMK 220 is very forgiving of jump.

I must add, the brand of primer is important, at least for my rifle. CCI Large Rifle Magnum primer makes this load work. Remington Large Rifle Magnum doesn't for some reason.

Re: New 300 WM load

Thanks CanPopeer
I'm going to try that as a starting load then and gradually load up to max and see what happens. Fortunately I've got a good supply of CCI 250's. I'll mess about with the seating depth after I've had run thro different charges. Mine usually likes .03" off the lands so I'll start with that.
Cheers for your help.
