I know some of you guys have heard me say that I'd never do a centerfire action that's a true Remington 700 drop-in, but that's what I get for saying "never."

The new Model 911 "Stand Alone" is a true drop in that does not require any modifications to Remington 700 style stocks AND I will be offering it for sale outside of doing in-house rifle builds. That's right; complete actions for you or whomever to build on from Underground Skunkworks. The "as sold" features of the Model 911 "Stand Alone" are:

Stainless Steel Receiver
One Piece Bolt
Mini M16 Extractor Kit
Plunger Ejector Kit
Guided Firing Pin with Spring, Shroud and Cocking Piece
Precision Ground .200" Thick Recoil Lug with pins (.300" available if requested)
GUARDIAN Mag Well (A Randy Cain Creation)
Remington Rear Tang
Short Port
Double Round Bridge
Remington 1.150" Tenon
Side Bolt Release
Available in SA or LA
RH or LH
Standard or Magnum Bolt Face

The Model 911 "Stand Alone" action is offered complete and ready to build on for $950 plus shipping. The 20MOA Picatinny Rail is available in SA or LA for $149 with pins and screws.

The "Compatible" is available for in-house builds and shares the same features as the "Stand Alone" with the exception of the ejection port, primary extraction and engraving. Both actions will feed from AI or AW Magazines and are compatible with the new Underground Skunkworks DBM. I plan to post photos of the DBM within two weeks.

The Model 911 "Stand Alone" and "Compatible" actions were designed to support the new rifle packages available from Underground Skunkworks to include the CRUX Take-Down Rifle System, KUKRI, PERSEUS and JAEGER. Two additional actions are available for the RECON and SPECTER-BABR. The Model 911 "Standard" and "Military" are longer versions of the Model 911 that features our new Controlled Round Feed/Push Feed arrangement with Dual Extraction and Mechanical Ejection. These actions will not feature the GUARDIAN Mag Well, but will feed from the AI Magazines. There are unique differences between the "Standard" and "Military" but I will refrain from sharing those differences until photos are available. The "Standard" and "Military" were designed for harsh environments where the utmost reliabity is both expected and required. More details to come on these two actions within two weeks.

Mike B I Know we see eye to eye on this issue no doubt. Some so called Smiths rush through what they do and the lack of attention to detail stands out. You are 1000% correct "Quality can never be rushed" I would fall on my sword because I would NOT have it any other way...

Keep up the Outstanding work and if someone does not want to wait for your product (s) well they can buy from who know who

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Standby for Pics

Do you know the weight of the Rem drop-in action with the Guardian mag well?

I'm shopping for an action for my next .260 build and these look great....

Not off the top of my head, but I can weigh it and get back to you. I'm doing a few KUKRI packages now and I know the overall weight of the rifle is around 10 pounds depending on optics....

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

Mike, you are killing me with these pictures and the arrival of the new stuff on your web sight. I am having a hard time sleeping at night now and thinking of looking for a part time job to fund another rifle build.......DAN

Sorry Dan, but it appears as though my pictures and new stuff on the website are doing exactly what I want them to

.

I have the build sheet completed for your Stiller build but I haven't had the chance to e-mail it to you. I'm in the Salt Lake airport now about to board my next flight to KC, so I'll get your build sheet out to you tonight when I get to the hotel.

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

Mike,

I can't figure a way out for a new build. But I have to say, the finish work on your receivers is very good. When you can, put up some photos of different bolt finishes. I would like to see the nose and extractors up close.

Once again, they look REALLY good.

because i would definitely want one if they are available in europe too

CB,
They are ITAR controlled items, but it is possible to export them after jumping through the necessary State Dept hoops.

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

I really like the bolt knobs on these actions. I installed on an a FN SPR action and it looks and feels great!

Its just another nice feature of these actions rather than going with the "standard" PTG knob that most others use.

Great work Mike, they look awesome!

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

can you send me 1 of everything you don't have pics of to look at for a while? they are so beautiful I just want to touch and look while the photographer works.

nevermind I'd forget to return then anyway (sorry)

The good news is you will now become so busy you will never get to fly any more.
Very Nice Work.

I've gone back and forth so many times looking at these that i am starting to feel like the little dude in Lord of the Rings, precious,so precious it is.

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

Mike,

Your group buy is very tempting; I'm looking forward to seeing the Standard and Military actions.

What inlets is your DBM going to be compatible with? Can a stock that has an inlet for surgeon DBM be opened up or would it already be to large?

Thanks for answering my seemingly endless questions.

No problem on the questions....My DBM shares the same inlet as the Surgeon with one minor change that is easily dealt with.

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

Re: New Actions from Skunkworks-Pics Up

those look great mike.

out of curiosity, what kind of clearance are you allowing between the bolt body and receiver on these? also, are these using a bolt nose counterbore in the breech or a coned bolt nose?

keep up the great work!

Thanks 300....There's typically been around .0025" or so clearance between the bolt and receiver in my past actions, but these are running a wee-bit looser for the field/tactical builds. The "Stand Alone" and "Compatible" 911's use the bolt nose counterbore and the "Standard" and "Military" versions use the coned bolt/breech.

The "Military" actions are available now with the M16-Style extractor and the the ability to feed from the AICS and AW Magazines. I have a prototype of the Controlled Round Feed (pictured here, as you can see the mechanical ejector) in testing.

I've attached pics of the BUIS system for the "Military." I'm contemplating doing a version of this same BUIS for the Remington 700 if the interest is high enough, but obviously there are a few mods required for the top of the receiver. I will have my first run of flip-up front sights finished and available by mid-week (18Aug2010).

With the correct optic, (in this case, something with a low end mag of 1.5 or less) the front sight can be used to co-witness the optic. The optic designed into the SPECTER-BABR Rifle Package is the S&B 1-8 Short Dot, but S&B now can't deliver this optic until late 2010. I have the first of the SPECTER-BABR Rifles going to the US Army by the end of August for deployment to Afghanistan in November. I'll post photos and range reports of the SPECTER-BABR on SH within the next two to three weeks....

Thanks. I'll need to get three of them on the range soon, but I'll be in FL, GA and VA from the 18th to the 25th. I could use a little help pumping a few rounds downrange....
