I posted a while back about getting into long range shooting with a 308. Well after checking out the places to buy ammo here, I decided that it wouldn't be economical to shoot a 308. Ammo for it is scarce and usually limited to the hunting rounds. And you also can't ship any ammo here. But ar-15 ammo is easy to get and to get cheap in bulk. So I decided to build me an AR. I figure it would be good to learn tthe basics on, and in a year or so I'll drop the cash on a GAP.

So far everything but the barrel and bcg has arrived and this is what I have so far:
Stag lower, 2nd amendment version, it was cheaper
Ranier upper
Hypertouch 24E trigger
Magpul UBR and magpul grip and mags
JP silent capture buffer
Houlding precision keymod handguard 15 in.
And a phantom flash hider

After hearing good things on here about WOA barrels, I ordered a WOA 20" SDM 1/8 twist with a matching bolt and it should be here in a couple weeks. Once it's here I'll be ready to shoot, with iron sights, or a cheap red dot. I'll be buying a scope at the end of April and it'll either be a swfa or Weaver 3-15, the ones that are around $700

Here's some pics so far

Turning out to be what looks like a great build! Post some accuracy results with it at 100+ yards and let us know how she runs. What type of muzzle device are you thinking of putting on it if the barrel you got is threaded?

If it freezes up your Alaskan AR15, just send it to me when ya get that GAP! Very nice build---never heard of that key mod forearm. Be careful, they are so versatile that they can be very addicting. My bud, a military armorer, likes building 'em more than shooting 'em!

Ive got just a phantom flash hider to put on it for now. Im still waiting on the barrel though. This week is week #7 and they said it would be 6-8 weeks. Im not sure if ill really need a muzzle brake for what i want to do with it. Itll mainly be a bench and hunting gun.
I had never heard of that handguard either, but i was looking at the Houlding Precision Curse muzzle brake and noticed they had handguards as well. Its a great looking and very sturdy handguard. Its heavy compared to other 15 inch keymod handguards (about 15 oz), but its cheaper than a noveske and i didnt want one like the midwest industries because of the way those attach.

Right on man, hope that barrel is on its way to you by next week, I bet the anticipation is killing you! I've really been wanting to do a 20" barrel 223 AR build myself for precision shooting, so looking at threads and builds like this is quite nice to get my ideas flowing.
