Gunsmithing new barell fluting

If I'm not mistaken cut rifled can be fluted after but not so on hammer forged or buttoned rifles barrels, by that I mean it can be done its just not recommended.

My Bartlein was fluted by Kampfeld after it had already been cut, crowned, threaded, and chambered. It was then Melonited. It consistently shoots 1/2 MOA, most the time less. I've shot a 5 shot group one time that measured .14 it was the best 5 shot group I've ever shot from any rifle.

Cut barrel, when ever. I feel better having the barrel manufacture do the fluting on button barrels. They can then to all there stress relief to the barrel. I know many shooters have had good experience with ether type of barrel and fluting at some point. Im sure there are a few shooters that have not had good experiences with fluting ether type also. My opinion is that cut barrels can be more forgiving than button rifled barrels as far as fluting, melonite or anything else goes.

We do all of our barrel fluting after all the other work is completed.

No complaints yet and we've done a few hundred this way for three years now.

I have a benchmark fluted barrel. It was fluted after the barreled action was completed. Shoots fine. Five shots with factory ammo can be covered with a dime at 100 yards (.22 cal). You shouldn't be worried. Mason and Evan will do it right.
