I'm thinking of installing a new barrel on my remington 700, is this something can do myself or am i going to need a gunsmith?

no I'm just going to have someone do it than.........what barrels would you recommend i was thinking about a kreiger

You can do it yourself but would need to buy a few tools which would put the project into the realm of just paying a smith to do it...
Short Chambered and machined barrel blank,
Action Wrench
Barrel Vice
Reamer to finish off the barrel blank
Headspace gauges
If you have access to a Lathe then you could take on more but this is the bare essentials you would need... My wife sent me a gun rag in the mail the other day that had an article about DIY Rem barreling. Shotgun News did one a few years ago. With the Rem/Sav barrel setup you should be able to scratch the Reamer but will need everything else plus a Sav barrel nut tool.

depends on your funds, I would get somebody good to do it for you. If its done right never look back and learn, enjoy your rifle. If its not done right then you will spend too much time trying to figure out why your rifle won't shoot, then get somebody to do it right.it an extremely important process. my 02
