Well, I see these are now public:

http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3777520.0

I've been shooting them for awhile now.

Just curious if anybody else here is shooting these and what kind of results you've been getting. My go to load right now is a 139 Scenar over H4350 because the Scenars are unbelievably consistent and forgiving about relation to the lands. I ran into accuracy issues with the VLD's as the lands moved. The Scenars *DEFINITELY* give something up to the Berger VLD's in the wind. I was hoping the Target Hybrids would be the best of both worlds.

The best I've been able to get with the 140 Hybrids is moa (4.8") at 500 yards, which is a far cry from the .3 moa of the VLD's and .25 moa of the Scenars I've been getting. But I'm the first to admit that I'm not a master of load development (or that good of a marksman for that matter). For the record, my time at 500 yards was cut short by snow. I see no point in shooting at 100 yds. because... well, I shoot at 500 yds. minimum. So my data is minimal with these....

So.. What are you guys finding?

why is berger asking people to test their bullets for them ? If they don't shoot i'd think berger would already know about it. What is the point ?

Re: New Berger 6.5mm 140 gr Target Hybrids

To my understanding. Berger always has a select group of 10-20 customers provide test data. I just missed out on the test group for the 6mm 87 VLDs.

Berger already knows they shoot or they wouldn't have been produced. I'm assuming they are just trying to see what the average shooter can achieve with them.
Just because one guy hasn't found a good load, doesn't mean the bullets won't perform.

I can't speak for Eric or Bryan, but as an ex-engineer, I can tell you that it's often helpful to get focus group input once your product is mostly baked. You will often get feedback that is unique and unexpected. In my arena it was usually related to user interface or industrial design, but with regard to bullets, there is an enormous variety of uses and conditions that are a lot of work to recreate and if you can get other people to do some of that testing it means you can go off and do other things while waiting for feedback.

Thanks for keeping this thread going. Still interested in other feedback. I just formed a bunch of .260 brass from 7-08 Win. brass and will try some in that. So far, everything has been done in Lapua brass. We'll see if there is any difference.

Box says G7 = .317, G1 = .618. They shot into the same POI as the 140 VLD's at 500 yds. with the same load, but that's really short range to be seeing small BC differences. Our LR shooting spot is on public land and hunting season started the next week, then it snowed and we couldn't get back in there. So I have no data past 500 yds.

Powder Valley is now showing these for sale on their site.

FWIW, I took some loaded round COAL's from my chamber. I have a .260, I think the freebore was .100" but not sure, but that was 1000 rds. ago. It is what it is now...

These are all loaded at the lands.

139 Scenar - 2.850"
140 Amax - 2.854"
142 SMK - 2.897
140 VLD - 2.925"
140 Hybrid - 2.983"

These Hybrids have a really long ogive. They would not feed reliably from my modified AICS mag or from an Alpha 2 when loaded at or close to the lands. I had to back them off quite a ways to get them to feed, so factor this in if you are feeding from a magazine. You will most likely have to jump them if you're running a .260 with .090 or .100 freebore. 6.5x47L or 6.5 CM won't have nearly the problem, but it is possible with the 6.5 CM and unmodified AICS that you might run into mag fit/feeding issues.

I think the purpose of the design was to give some of the seating depth tolerance of the tangent ogive designs (Scenar, SMK, etc) with the high BC advantages of the VLD. It would be worth it if they continue to shoot well without having to "chase the lands". But in my rifle, I can't get them anywhere near the lands and feed them from a mag.

Re: New Berger 6.5mm 140 gr Target Hybrids

gotcha because of you reloading the 260 to mag oal. I got a 47L so maybe ill give em a try. Wonder if they will come out with a 130 hybrid??

To be fair to the CoC and the Mods, we should put further responses here:
