Well I got my gun back from the smith a couple months ago and between working 60+ hrs. a week and the weather being crappy here in WNY (it rained twice since then, once for a month and then once for 5 weeks) I've still managed to shoot a few times. I had a stock 5r with a Weaver 5-20 tactical scope and ran 2700+ rounds through it before I had to "fix" it. Sold the Weaver and bought an USO Sn3 5-25, USO rings and bases. Then I sent it to the smith for work after I had a bolt knob installed (AZ precision), and the bolt fluted (Kampfeld)

20" Rock barrel
Holland recoil lug
action trued
Jewell trigger
Badger DBM
LOP +1"
scope base bedded
Karsten cheek piece
Ceracoated
Speedlock firing pin
DarkMetal muzzle brake

So, with all that stuff I figure I'll shoot like Bob Swagger and Annie freaking Oakley combined! Sad to say there wasn't a lot of difference from the stock 5r the way I shot it. Here's some background, I've been shooting over 45 years, mostly pistol and shotgun but I've also shot rifle all those years. Never any training just what I've picked up from other shooters and reading books (those are the flat paper things we had before the internet). Anyway, after a couple of disappointing trips to the range I figure why not sign up for the online training here on the Hide maybe I'm doing something wrong.
**Lesson learned number 1**
That should have been the first $140 I spent!
I was doing LOTS of things wrong and then practicing my bad habits. After changing just a few things the results were dramatic.
It's easy to get caught up in having a new rifle put together and I'm looking forward to doing another I just have to remember that it's a separate thing from my ability to shoot.
There's more lessons I've learned from my mistakes but I'm getting tired of typing so they will have to wait.here's a link to my original post w/pics if anyone cares to read it:

A Savage 10 or Remington Varmint, $500 scope, a mountain of ammo, and an experienced shooter looking over your shoulder is the only way.
