I know this has probably been beaten to death, but I have confused myself at this point. I am trying to build a handier hunting/fun rig that I can shoot to 1K if I want. I have the pieces ready to go other than the barrel. I am down to .308 or one of the 6.5's. I have an AE 6.5 Creedmoor already and was thinking of going with .308 for this one. I just read what people say about shorter barrel .308's past 500 and it scares me a little. I was trying to keep the barrel around 22". Any thoughts to help me decide?

a 308 with an 18-20" barrel will still get to 1,000. There is significantly less energy but if you're just going to punch holes or ring steel its a good challenge.
you could always just go with another Creedmore. Makes ammo easier as well as training. A 22" creedmore would make a very versatile rig.
Best of luck
