I just bought a new 700P and was wondering what suggestions you guys had as far as enhancements, methods of cleaning, and breaking in.

From reading the forums, this looks like the right path to go on.

Badger Ordnance Tactical Knob
Badger Ordnance Scope Rail Short action, 20 MOA cant
Badger Ordnance Steel Scope Rings
Badger Ordnance M5 Detachable Magazine Kit
Harris Swivel 9-12" Bipod

Re: New Build

Good ideas for now:
1. Badger Ordnance Scope Rail Short action, 20 MOA cant
2. Badger Ordnance Steel Scope Rings
3. Harris Swivel 9-12" Bipod
4. Spend $10 to sign up for Sniper's Hide Online Training
5. Save money for ammo and shoot the weapon
6. Learn to use the search function or google

Ideas for later:
You'll figure it out based on doing numbers 4-6

Re: New Build

Thanks, a bunch. I know about #6 and I do search often. I just needed MY advice. What about optics, where should I start? Super Sniper? I know about the Nightforces, but can't justify paying that early in my learnings.

Re: New Build

You have an expensive rig you're working on there. If need be you certainly can save some money on that stuff.

Badger Ordnance Tactical Knob (There is a guy on the hide that does these for a very reasonable price and has great reviews. Plus he has personal knobs that I like more and are cheaper.)

Badger Ordnance Scope Rail Short action, 20 MOA cant ( You can save some money here and pick up a EGW base, a lot of people are running these.)

Badger Ordnance Steel Scope Rings (I had a set of these and they are built like mack trucks but I couldn't justify having rings that cost this much so I switched. Right now I'm using some lightweight aluminum burris xtr rings that have fit the bill thus far.)

Badger Ordnance M5 Detachable Magazine Kit (I would say unless you absolutely feel you need this hold off and save some cash.)

Harris Swivel 9-12" Bipod (This is a must haIMO)

Re: New Build

Great advice, thanks! I'll check out the alternative bases and rings. Do you know the guy who does the tactical knobs? Detachable magazine isn't going to be put on for a long time.

Re: New Build

Can't say I'm familiar with Larue but some rings I'd like to know more about are the TPS Tactical rings, they look pretty solid. Again you can't go wrong with the bases, they started making some rings but the ones I saw are fugly.

Re: New Build

No, I'm still debating because I don't like the idea of having that huge knob hanging on my rifle waiting to get snagged on something. I do a lot of hiking with my 700 and sometimes through some thick stuff so for now I'm staying with what I've got.

Re: New Build

Burris XTR rings are good, I have a set on all of my rifles, scope has moved at all.

Like CHEW said, get an EGW base, also good, and have them on my bolt guns...cheap too.

As others have said, shoot the rifle first, alot. Then you will have a good idea of what you prefer and works, and what just looks cool and doesn't do any good for you.

Also the online training has helped out quite a bit, so spend the 120 a year and sign up.

I have had my rifles for 7 yrs, and honestly didn't start customizing them to my needs until last year. Now I know what I need and what I don't.
