Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Red Band (grown up) trailer was released today.

Gives a better taste of what kind of mayhem is in it.

More pics from a Spanish site.

Also, in case you live next to one of these groovy D-box motion seat equipped theaters, Lionsgate and D-box are super jazzed about the motion track for Conan. LINK

How do you mess up a good movie? Do a remake.....No one would play the part better than the oak.

It's not a remake of the Arnold movie. At all. Momoa hasn't even seen them. This is a reboot from the source code of REH's work, not a Governator-inspired rehash.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Family Guy? Really?

The old pedophile dude who whistles when he talks? Did somebody swap your Skoal with salvia divinorum?

Watch this, then please re-articulate because your assertion is sorta stupid sounding to me right now.

Khal Drogo Fight

Edit - do you mean Corin? Conan's father's character? I'm really trying to figure out what you meant, and I'm striking out.

Yes, that's Ron Perlman.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Ron Perlman has become such a whore. He obviously no longer has any regard for the quality of the movie or the role, just for the bank roll they wave under his nose.

I couldn't watch it all. You can make more sense of the violence in a 3 Stooges episode.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Saw it...frigging awful. The kind of film that purges the system out for a couple of years, a super enema....sending its director back to crappy rock videos. No cookie here....the kind of film only a 14 year old gender conflicted boy would remember past the doors of the theater. What a waste.

Giving you an idea...

At the end, the very end, after sitting through the whole flick, she turns to Conan and says "Thanks for taking me to my village. I know you have to go." and.....

He does....

That bad...

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Man, sorry you guys are hating on it. I thought it was fun to work on, and I really believed you'd collectively dig it as a whole. Guess not. I haven't even seen it in a theater myself. Never even heard it with the music, and only from my 2d work picture.

Win some lose some, but know that I really did my best effort working on this one. It's a shame it didn't click with people.

I perhaps should, from what I understand at this point, recommend seeing it in 2D if you choose to check it out. From most accounts, the 3d kinda sucks balls. YMMV, I have no idea myself, I was hanging with LAV opening weekend.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Nothing new there - some of the worst films I've ever worked on were the most fun ("Battlefield Earth" for example).

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Even though I hated Momoa on SGA, he earned a reprieve form his role in Game of Thrones. That mixed with sheer boredom drove me to the theater to see a non thinker type movie, so Conan was it. It wasn't great, hell, it wasn't even good, but it wasn't entirely bad. I have always had a hard on for Rose McGowan and her scantily clad and playing the bad girl was a bonus as I didn't know she was in the movie. Definite waste of money for 3D though. Otherwise the special effects were good. Both visual and sound.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

That dude as Conan? This is Conan the Barbarian, right?

Ah.....no.

Just curious...who would you cast as the lead?

Clay Matthews???

I would have cast "The Rock" or one of the WWF wrestlers (heck, they are better actors). I saw the movie last week, it's 1hr and 20 minutes of my life I will never get back.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Watched this last night and enjoyed it.

I thought it was well done. I dont see enough fantasy and sci fi films these days so this one pleased me.

I thought the environments were fairly nice, and the enemies were pretty cool.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

I dont think they wanted to cast the rock for it cause he did the scorpian king which l like the rock as a actor but it was so much the same type of character. I think this guy that played Conan looked alot like what l would think Conan should look like plus he does a good job in Game of Thrones . Taking the boys to see this tonight . l'll give my honest review later tonight or in the mornin

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Bought the DVD yesterday and viewed it.

Entertaining, original for a Conan movie, and honestly, I think the protrayal was better for not trying to emulate the Arnold flicks.

The special features make some arguments about the original Howard stories and Conan persona, and I think their arguments have some validity.

Momoa handled the role with some panache, the character who was the more incomprehensible was Steven Lang's villain. Kinda two-dimensional; I hope they paid him well, because the writing did not provide him with a character to relish for his resume.

The production design of Hyborea/Cimmeria is utterly heroic; and the Ron Perlman role was very well crafted by all involved.

The ladies are easy on the eyes, their characters are fair-to-middlin' tasty.

Like others, I think it's better than I'm reading here, and wonder what folks would be saying if they never saw the Arnold flicks. You folks gotta look at things more objectively, IMHO.

In so asking, while I like the Arnold Flicks, I think they took the original Conan persona rather a ways from the original author's intent. He's written as sagacious, but Arnold's character is..., just..., not.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Who AAAARE you?
is the quote i always think of from the original conan with arnold.

Not sure how you can say that Arnold didnt fit the role of conan. Much like terminator, not a whole lot of dialogue in it. Just hack and slash.

Havent seen the new one yet but will try to watch it with an objective eye. Course, i always picture conan being built more like arnold or lou ferrigno. Thats the way that all the original book art depicted him from what i recall. its been many many years since i read them.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

I'm too much a fan of Robert E Howard's (and de Camp's) stories to ever think that a movie would capture the true Conan. I have no faith that it will ever happen. It has certainly NOT in the movies produced thus far.

That said, I liked Momoa's performance better than Arnold's. Momoa's "Conan movie" would have been better-received if it had been a generic fantasy character rather than being labeled as Conan.

What might be good would be a "King Conan" movie following "Hour of the Dragon" with Vladimir Kulich playing the older Conan. Trouble is, Hollywood wants a big action movie with Conan, NOT a Conan movie that's closer to horror or a thriller in nature. If you've read the Howard stories, you come to realize that they are actually share a lot more with those movies than with the hokey swordsmanship of the movies that have been produced. I'm a bit surprised that someone hasn't done a "fly by wire" Conan fight scene.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

I hated the new one. I am a huge Conan fan, books included. Arnold was Conan, bad vocal, tons of raw muscle and brute strength. A better barbarian I can't think of. Plus, the original had a well constructed story. The new one tried to hard to surpass the original and utterly failed.
IMHO

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

The Arnold/Ferrigno image comes from the 1960's and 1970's when the books were re-released in paperback with the Frazetta cover art including all the semiclad maidens and "beyond the 'roid" musclemen. The covers sold a lot of books to us Red-Blooded American Teenage Boys, but really didn't represent the character inside with all that much verity.

I wish they'd release some decent Doc Savage flicks.
