Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

Copenhagen, what a wad of flavor.
Copenhagen, you can see it in my smile.
Copenhagen, do yourself a favor.
Chew Copenhagen, drive them pretty girls wild.

Lyrics by Robert Earl Keen

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

I vote for US Tobacco to give him a years supply!!!

I chew Copenhagen, stealthily due to a no tobacco policy on our department, and had a chew in my mouth when my wife and I saw Robert Earl Keen. Love that song!

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

"Now, I went out last Sunday with my little Mary-Ann
She said please stay till Monday, and grabbed me by my can
She laid a big one on me, suprised me with her tongue,
But her surprise was waitin' there, between my cheek and gum."
Robert Earl Keen

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

Put in a fresh one just now. I'd quit myself but I am pretty sure I can't hunt, fish, take a long car ride, drive the tractor or ride the horse without a dip.

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

If anyone can id that young fella, I'd buy him a roll and ship it to him. PM me if you know him.

Sure is hard to quit, when I see a motivating "ad" like this one.

That's where it gets me to. Long car trips and sitting in the office....

I work inside so I have never been a dip in all day user.....but like you there are things I do when I need one.

or make it 2 minutes past a meal, have 3 beers, spend 24 hours at a fire station, see how well I can shoot slightly tachycardic.

After 40 years of dipping, I didn't think I'd ever quit either. Then a couple of years ago the oral surgeon told me to quit for a couple of weeks and come back for a biopsy so he could be sure if it was cancer.

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

I am a dentist by trade.....so I see what chronic use can do and being a dentist in the South do quite a few biopsies from tobacco use. Lots of things are bad for you with chronic overuse. The key is if you are a user, use in moderation. I biopsy every clinically relevant tissue change I find and even at that only a very small percentage come back as carcinoma. Of several hundred biopsies the last few years I have gotten back only three carcinomas.....two from very chronic overusers and one with no alcohol or tobacco history. My point here is know the risk but if you like it and can do it in moderation you are more at risk but you are also unlikely to develop carcinoma....contrary to what all the anti-tobacco nuts would tell you. If the same publicity was given to alcohol they'd have people thinking any drinking = liver cancer. There are lots of carcinogens we use every day or are around every day. If you kept anything in your mouth in the same place from sun up to sun down for years you'd be asking for trouble. I hope yours turned out favorable.

Thanks for posting this Doc. I hope I can get my wife and kids to read this. Too much to hope that my doctor will read it, he thinks I quit. I only dip 1-1.5 cans a week and have insisted to the brainwashed around me that this consumption rate is quite moderate. I have seen guys put 1/2 a can in their lip, and having dipped or chewed since I could pick up leavings on the floor in grandaddy's tobacco barn, all your mouth can hold is a waste of good 'baccer. Glad someone eluded to the fact that alcohol is ALSO carcinogenic. I take a snort or two of that on occasion as well

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

Started dipping snuff when I was 12 years old. The whole time I have dipped between 1/4 - 2 cans per day. I quit about a month ago, due to some slightly receding gums, and I really don't plan on starting again, only maybe a can every once in a while for nostalgia's sake.

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

I am like you armorpl8chikn....a can a week roughly. I have friends that go through as much as 3 cans a day. I tell them if their face falls of they really can't blame it on the tobacco. Again I'm not saying tobacco is safe but gross overuse is more than often the biggest part of the problem.

Tank I would say a can a day is a lot of use. Try to limit yorself down as much as you can and move it around....don't leave it the same place every time. It will be like pissin with the wrong hand at first but it really lessens the effects on your soft tissue. Try to keep it at a rate of use that you enjoy it but it doesn't control you. If you get a can to last you a few days I think you are in the moderation range of use.

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

Good news from a dentist, thank you sir.

1/2 a can per day myself, less in the summer. And I do keep it in two different places. I know I should quit, but I DON'T WANT TO!

Yes, hunting fishing and riding a tractor all suck without my chew

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

I cut down quite a bit over the past few years, I only dip once a day now. Unless I am at the range then it's a mouthful of long cut the whole time. Been dipping for roughly 15 years and I used to be a 2 can a day guy in my late teens early twenties slowed way down once the kids arrived. I'll quite someday...when I'm dead...

NOTHING and I mean nothing made my jaws and mouth more raw than chewing salty assed sunflower seeds. I did quit for about 3 years back in the mid ninties.I tried everything, mint snuff, punkin seeds , sunflower seeds, nothing satisfied because it IS the nicotine that satiates the fit. I will never forget when I started back. Came in to work after a rough week off and my nerves were shot...you guys have been there. Asked the guy I worked with for a dip of that Cope in his pocket. He looked at me like a calf staring at a new gate,"you sure?" "Damn right I'm sure." I got myself what I have always considered an outsized dip and set back to enjoy. In about 5 minutes he said,"dude you don't look so good." I admit I was feeling a bit green. I rolled the dip out and took about a 15 minute breather and bummed another dip off him, but this time a normal pinch......been off the wagon ever since.
When I was a kid if you didn't chew, smoke, or dip it was a near impossibility to work in the tobacco fields as priming or suckering tobacco would make you sick as hell if you weren't a user.

Re: New Copenhagen commercial?

When I was overseas I was a chronic overuser. Can a day no problem on mission. Now I am down to about two cans a week. I dunno if I could quit, the shit is just too delicious.
