I made a new video so you can see what happens without the muzzle brake.

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tMLMof4P8Hk"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tMLMof4P8Hk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

Did I mention I'm going to have a Remington 700 on sale shortly

Once we clean all the dirt out of course......

Re: New Fat Bastard video

Great vid.....

But as it seems to have bounced muzzle down and the thread protector was "totally full of dirt", I might just have been tempted to remove the bolt and check the bore for any more obstructions before firing the second shot!

Re: New Fat Bastard video

I knew it was going to fly off I just didn't know how far the first time I did it. Without the brake it actually cut my finger open when the trigger guard hit me.
I would say it was definitely a "nobody" break in if there ever was one.
I made the thread cap 1.5" long so the dirt would pack in the cap and couldn't actually pack itself into the barrel. Round 1 took 15 minutes to get the dirt out.

Re: New Fat Bastard video

WOW! That was completely unexpected! I knew the brake would make a difference, but didn't expect the rifle to go on safari into the bushes.

Great vid. Thanks for sacrificing your rifle to make it.

Re: New Fat Bastard video

How was that muzzle blast standing right next to the rifle instead of being behind it?

Reminds me of the guy who started shooting himself to sell body armor. Crazy but it worked.

I remember watching that guy on a VHS tape called Deadly Weapons.
He stuffed a bunch of magazines up under the vest and held a 44 upside down to shoot himself.

Re: New Fat Bastard video

The first part of this video made me cringe. But at least it hit the concrete on the recoil pad.

The second part I thought, "well that's one way to sell a muzzle brake." lol

Re: New Fat Bastard video

Thats a great video!!! Thanks for showing us all the advantages of using and not using a brake.

Don't underestimate the LB. I have one on my 7 and it's like shooting a 243. I'd have to admit though, the FB is pretty kickass looking!

Cool vid Jered, and good luck in Africa.

The reason I started using brakes was because of shooting prairie dogs @ 500 yds. with a .22-250! People can talk all they want about being perfectly behind the rifle. But, when your target is 1x.5moa...a brake really comes in handy. Never losing sight of a very small target like that gives a lot of insurance you hit him. Or, at least you'll know you didn't.

+1
It looks like you may have just pioneered a new testing standard.
Although you will have to refine the trigger thing.

Re: New Fat Bastard video

It would be interesting as a side experiment to see you shoot the rifle with NO brake, and then shoot it with the FB. The difference in perceived recoil would be an excellent demo.
I have a Savage 112 in .300. Would that break work on it?
The last .300 I had I used a Magnaport muzzle break and it worked great. That would be another great comparison video!
Thanks,

Phil

Re: New Fat Bastard video

on your website it says up to .338 but im wondering if its possible to get one in a .375
my pops has a .375 h&h magnum that kicks like an absolute mule(about 1.5x what my uncles sako kicks)
