Re: New Ghillie
Shibs, they make those mats in 1/8" and 1/4" versions. Either will work, depending on user's preference. They're durable, flexible enough to not restrain movement, dont hold water, and are thick enough to take the edge off your elbows and knees.
While you dont want the padding to compress to the point that you lose its padding abilities, you want to to be able to compress some so that movement isnt restrained. Also, if the pad retains its shape too much and is too rigid, on a crawl, youre going to cut a path big enough for Helen Keller to find and jump your 6.
Really wouldnt be a bad idea to cut the 1/8" to the shape of the total skid, and then glue (Incredible Goop*) another section of 1/8" right around the elbow area onto the larger piece of padding. Then, you get 1/4" of padding where you need it most, without added bulk or weight.
*SierraWhiskey turned me on to that stuff. Its cheaper than ShoeGoo and is WAY better. The shit sets up like concrete. When glueing down your skids before you sew them, this is the shit to use. Walmart, Michaels and Hobby Lobby all have it.
