I have been reading posts on the sight for about a year as my son-in-law has been twisting my arm to build a "real long range rifle". I have a AR10 that I built up, but only intended it to be an 800 yd rig which it does well (in a couple of outings I have tried). He finally won after making me a deal on a Defiance action that I fell in love with....even just to hold and caress it;). I have never shot much beyond 500 yds with any regularity. The new rig is the Deviant Tactical, Benchmark 24 (308....I know, but I have lots of 308 match ammo and I can always barrelswap later), ARC rings, KRG Bravo, TriggerTech Diamond. I did get a good deal on a Athlon Cronus and so far love it, but I know some would recommend a better optic, but I ran out of budget and figured I would run with this until I know how serious I am. I am over 60, so starting late on this. Thanks to all of your who have posted great content. So far groups using factory ammo (began living fulltime in RV this year so no reloading until I land again) are 1/2 to 1 MOA, but figure that will improve as I have not been shooting like this for many months. Not sure which of the forums to post this in, so maybe some advice. I am living in my motorhome and will be spending the winter months in the Phoenix area. I would really like to get out and learn to shoot my new rifle while I am there, so looking for advice on where or even meeting up with folks to pick up some pointers. I am new to the game, so while I have been shooting for about 5 decades and have competed a bit in 3 gun and NRL (as a tagalong with my son-in-law), but never fired beyond 500 yards on purpose. Anyway....starting a new learning adventure in my retirement years. Thanks.

Welcome welcome! I think you're gonna throw some AZ folks off your trail with the title of this thread, so I recommend starting another thread in the "New Member Introduction" forum you've already found, titled something like "New Member in Phoenix, AZ for the Winter" or something like that, I think you'll get a good amount of local information thataway. Either way, your build sounds like an excellent entry into the sport, and it's great to hear you love the action already!

Good point. I just wasn't sure if this was the correct forum. If it is....I will follow your advice. Finally traveled to where my ammo stash is stored. Only have a small amount of 175 gr, but several hundred of 168 gr, so should get me started with the break in. LOL
