New guy from Nashville

I primarily use my Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 creedmoor. I'm a member at Strategic Edge so 1250 yards is the longest range I have tried.

Good rifle and caliber choice. When the factory barrel is shot out (expect 2000-2500 rounds of good accuracy), you can upgrade to a high quality prefit barrel which will foul less quickly and should be a little bit more accurate. RPR’s have a good reputation for affordable accuracy, and makes for a superb starter gun.

You are blessed to have a shooting range that goes out to 1,250 yards. With the new generation of high BC bullets in 6.5 mm (140 to 156 grain range), the projectile can easily stay supersonic to 1,250 yards and beyond, while minimizing wind drift.

If you don’t plan to reload, there are good factory ammo to shoot at that distance, like Federal Gold Medal Match and the new Berger loaded ammo with the 140 Hybrid. Reloading will help a little to optimize the ammo for your particular rifle, but that is an entirely weird and different (and expensive) rat hole. Price of several custom guns if you are not careful... probably best to climb one learning curve at a time.

Enjoy!

I moved to Nolensville from LaVergne not too long ago.

Nice. Was hoping to buy property in Cannon Co before I came out of the field and started working in an office off Haywood. The drive from Readyville , etc would be too much. If the work from home stuff sticks, I may move. Been here since '98 though, hard to leave the but the amount of rental property has changed the area.

Have you shot at Deadzero yet?

The rental property growth is a big reason why we left.

I haven't been out to Deadzero. I only recently heard about it. Once I got the Strategic Edge membership I haven't spent any time looking for another local range.

I'm located just South of Nashville in the suburb of Nolensville. I'm still new to long distance shooting so I'm looking forward to learning from the people on this forum.
Welcome from Mt. Juliet. Good to see there is a contingent from the Mid TN area here on the Hide. And thanks to the member who mentioned Deadzero. I’d never heard of the place. This is exactly what the Hide is all about, fellow enthusiasts sharing knowledge and encouraging each other.
I’m covered up work wise right now, but maybe later this year we can organize a local shoot. I’d like that.

BTW: Best investment is to spend the money and attend a training course. It will pay back in less wasted ammo and reduced barrel life.
Great advice. I want to get dialed in with my new AI AX 308 this year at least to 400 yards so I don’t embarrass myself or waste other folks time being unprepared for a class. I think most of us at some point in time have been in a class (of any type, not just specific to firearms) where an unprepared knucklehead has detracted from our learning. I don’t want to be “that guy.” I am budgeting some money for next year to take a long distance class, either locally or out of state.
I’m going to use the Hide search function to see if there is a thread that recommends specific classes, especially looking for advice on how to choose based on skill level and how to on prior preparation. If I can’t find the info, I will post a new thread. Thanks
